Picking stuff up with my toes. I use the two big ones like chopsticks or just scrunch something up with all of them together. My toes can spread out as wide as my fingers, so it's easy to manipulate things with them. Also, I am very well balanced on one leg, probably because of doing this for so long.

This power is more and more useful as I get older and find it more of a chore to bend over, with my beer belly getting in the way (I'm almost 50, it's a sign of success!). If it's below my waist I'm going to pick it up with my foot 50% basically.

I live in a warm climate and hardly ever wear closed shoes luckily, I know some places it wouldn't be practical..

Sober works by emulating android with a few hacks to make desktop use better. Actually great and up to date flatpak

My mum was a librarian for 20 years. Benefits include:

Getting to read all the books before anyone else. Nobody complains if you are reading at work. No library fines for overdue books and no limit on how many books you can take out. Quiet work environment.

I actually did an internship at the library - wonder how I manage to organise that - there is a large amount of repetitive manual labour involved as I recall it, mostly handled by the junior staff

Does anyone else feel ill when seeing some AI images? It's like an out of tune piano for me

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah I was 100% Opera on desktop and mobile until they switched to chromium and broke everything from before. Still pissed about that, lost all my bookmarks and notes at one point.

Libreelec on raspberry pi 4 (Kodi) works for me but it really needs a new YouTube app. That's the only issue really

Deepseek api is down today - probably a result of their viral success recently..

I dropped out of the IT game before I even started (dropped out of an IT qualification 20yrs ago), and can honestly say it was totally worth it.

Now I spend some happy evenings working on IT side projects related to my main career (entertainment) and it's fun. I even make extra cash doing freelance programming but because it's not my main hustle I get to choose to say no.

What I'm saying is while you are at the hardware doing what you enjoy, there is nothing stopping you from doing freelance IT work on the side, just look for the projects that inspire you. It's not all or nothing decision..

Battery on my Android Tablet died, so I upgraded it with 18650 replaceable batteries. Tutorial with pics

I'll start - Tananas. It's basically the soundtrack to my early adulthood. They were the Dave Matthews band of South Africa.

So this just happened - those of you who have a Xiaomi phone know when you install apps it has it's own "Virus Checker" screen which comes up before the app is approved for install. This is provided by Avast I just found out..

Anyway while installing an app from F-droid today I got an error message on this screen - which said "app from unknown source" and two buttons below - "Ignore" and "Install". So I clicked on "Install" since I wanted to install the app and then noticed that the install process seemed a bit different (I can't remember what happened exactly) but I checked the app on F-Droid and the version history wasn't available - which a notice says means the app was installed from Play Store or somewhere else. But I just installed it from F-Droid!

So I tried another few apps and it happened again for one of them. I clicked around and there it was, some sort of Xiaomi app store installing versions of the app instead of the one I told my phone to install.

I guess there is an innocent explanation for this - stopping people from installing malware and giving them a "correct" version of the app they wanted - but I have disabled it on my phone, I know what I am doing and if I want the cracked version it's because that's the version I meant to install ;)

Unsplash has a ton of free content and a great api - so I used the hugchat api to generate search queries based on some user input text and fetched images from there.

Buggy test site (using all free api's so will break frequently, free Unsplash* api is 50 pics/h) here: http://aisitegeneration.devsoft.co.za/ *sorry Unsplash I haven't added the attribution for photo's yet, I will soon ok?

Thoughts on this approach vs generative AI?
