I am moderating this sub and it shows 4 comments. I only see 3?! https://lemmy.ca/post/1528939 Does anybody else see 4? I am a bit concerned if there are 4 and I can see only 3 (2 are mine). As a moderator that would be no good.

As title mentions I can’t get into my main account after enabling 2 factor authentication.

I am using Google Authenticator 6.0 the code appears there as expected. However when I provide it to either the browser login screen on yny desktop or Jebora on my phone then select the log in button nothing happens.

It doe not indicate it is the wrong code, nor does it give any error messages.

Chromes debug console a 400 (Bad request) with error: “incorrect_totp token”

I assume this means it doesn’t like the authentication code I am providing. Though I’m not quite sure what it’s expecting.

Hello,

I was wondering how this rule is enforced.

I know this isn't likely specific to lemmy.ca, but is sorting by Hot super bugged? The first page of results are fine, but then the 2nd page is only posts from a random community from years ago

Some communities continue to be stuck in "Subscribe Pending" status even after the latest Lemmy update. !science@beehaw.org for example.

I thought it might be due to remote server load, but it has persisted for days (weeks in some cases), even when I cancel and retry, no matter what time of day, even when a visit to the remote instance shows that it's very responsive.

Could there be a problem in lemma.ca's configuration for federating with certain instances?

Hey all, looks like I added this question to the wrong group originally and was pointed here.

Basically trying to add feeds to a RSS reader.

Originally I had no problems with feeds on my home instance (lemmy.ca) but this morning no longer works.

Overall would like to add feeds from any subscribed community but seems to be hit or miss with a join lemmy prompt. See original post.

Any ideas or is it just a feature that needs some work at this point in time.

I'm trying to subscribe to !digital@mtgzone.com, but it can't be found on this instance. Also !mtg@mtgzone.com only has a post from 17 days ago. Is there a reason it's been defederarated?

I keep seeing posts without upvotes/downvotes in my feed that I am sure I've voted. It's possible that I voted them on a different client on my phone.

I would think that this persists across clients/pages, is this not the case?

Hi! From lemmy.ca I subscribed and posted on a lemmy.world hosted community (I subscribed a couple of days ago), after posting I went to lemmy.world and I cannot see my post.

Is there a delay in sharing information between servers? Or is this expected behaviour?

I also noticed that the community related information has different values, specifically the number of subscribes, on lemmy.world it says the community has 5k but on lemmy.ca it says 109. Is 109 the number of lemmy.ca subscribers to the community?

Cheers!

Why is it that some communities show a video/site preview and some don’t? Is it an instance setting? Image example of one where it’s not working as you would expect.

I go to a random post, read some comments, collapse them then upvotes another comment. All the comments I collapsed are uncollapsed! Why?! What is the point of that?! Is that something I can turn off?

As the lemmy.ca community has been growing, I've begun to look at some of your /c/communities and ... things are bugged. I can't really post or comment very well on my https://lemmy.world account.

So I created this local https://lemmy.ca account to maybe bring attention to this federation problem.

I'm not sure if this is due to the growth of https://lemmy.world, or some configuration issue on the backend. But I figure that tracking and testing my account access from both sides can help everyone get to the bottom of this.

i've been copy pasting some titles for post, but I get an invalid title format. Are there some characters triggering this from my text? too long? After error post screen (create button) goes into limbo. Fixes?

I get "connection failed" errors when attempting to sign in on Android. I've tried two phones, each on Jeroba, Firefox, and Chrome.

I am able to sign in just fine on my desktop, both Linux and Windows, Firefox and Chrome.

Is there a way to financially support Lemmy.ca? For example, by patreon?

Approx 30 mins ago, I suddenly lost access to lemmy.ca due to DNS resolution failures. I've managed to restore access by tossing the known good IP into my computers hosts file, in order to make this post.

It's worth noting I'm running my own DNS resolver (via PfSense router/firewall software) instead of the typical DNS forwarder offered by my ISP. As a result, my DNS ecosystem is likely a bit more fussy about the "correctness" of the DNS configuration.

My DNS server logs some entries complaining about DS and DNSKEY

debug: Failed to match any usable DS to a DNSKEY.
info: Could not establish a chain of trust to keys for lemmy.ca. DNSKEY IN

An attempt to verify the domain name using delv results in the following:

delv lemmy.ca
;; broken trust chain resolving 'lemmy.ca/A/IN': 127.0.0.53#53
;; resolution failed: broken trust chain

Running an external DNSSEC check tool, currenly reports DNSSEC related issues. The tool I ran was:

https://dnssec-analyzer.verisignlabs.com/lemmy.ca

This gave me two issues:

None of the 2 DNSKEY records could be validated by any of the 2 DS records

The DNSKEY RRset was not signed by any trusted keys

Did something related to DNS get deployed in the last little while?

In any case, I've got a workaround in place and am not stuck, however a site admin may want to be aware of this information.

Thanks!!

If I message a user who is from another instance, do they actually see the message and can they respond? Not clear from the documentation if this works.

So here I was checking to see if the Blue Jays Lemmy was being updated, and when I went there it says "No posts". I checked from Lemmy.world and the posts show up fine (ie https://lemmy.world/c/torontobluejays@lemmy.ca). I checked my languages (made sure undetermined it selected) so I'm stumped - any ideas?

I've been attempting to create a post in !motorcycles that has an uploaded image as the URL. The image uploads fine, and I double checked the URL to ensure it's valid, then I enter the post info, select a language, and hit create.

I see the create request get sent over the websocket but it just hangs permanently and never gets a response, nor is the post ever created, so not sure if something is hung up or throwing an error on the server side there.

Edit: and obviously I can create posts in general, since this was successful...

Is it possible for mods of communities to change/modify the theming at a community level? I can see in the docs how to add custom themes for admins creating whole new instances, but is there a way for mods to theme their communities yet?

I can’t find lemmy.radio communities in the search.

It'd be nice to (eventually!) see a link laying out a privacy policy for the instance, something like: https://newsie.social/privacy-policy

I'd especially be interested to know how long you associate the IP addresses we visit from with our accounts, who can see that info (and our emails), what other PII you store, and how long deleted posts/accounts are stored for.

(Totally get and very much appreciate that smorks &co have a lot on their plates just getting this place off the ground, not trying to demand additional work, just a suggestion. Seems like it'd take some thinking to balance with eg. a good backup regimen.)

I've tried to cross post a posting in lemmy.ca/c/TIL to lemmy.world/c/women, but there's no community option for that community.

I've also noticed, when logged into my account on lemmy.world, I have different community options to cross post to than if I'm logged into my lemmy.ca account.

How can you cross post to communities that are not yet in the drop down menu?

Thanks

I have been trying to create a post in the Canada community. Scuttlebutt is that the post limit was set to 10,000 characters, but has since been set to 50,000 characters. My post has 9961 UTF-8 characters (9969 characters overall, 8396 characters excluding spaces) and when I hit submit the submission never completes.
