Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a message of support Thursday for Elon Musk after the world’s richest man was accused of making a Nazi salute.

Musk “is being falsely smeared,” Netanyahu wrote on X, the social media platform owned by Musk. “Elon is a great friend of Israel. He visited Israel after the October 7 massacre… [and] has since repeatedly and forcefully supported Israel’s right to defend itself against genocidal terrorists and regimes who seek to annihilate the one and only Jewish state.”

Musk later thanked Netanyahu.

Nazi defends other Nazi. More at 11.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Just to make sure I'm not missing a joke or something, you are declaring the, I can't believe I am writing this, Prime Minister of Israel of being a nazi?

I am drunk and hopefully missing something and apologies if I am.

[–] [email protected] 49 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It feels crazy but yeah - PM of Israel is defending a person giving a Nazi salute. Said PM also involved in genocide.

Can't make this shit up

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Again, to be clear you are declaring that Bibi Netanyahu, is a nazi?

(Sorry, this is about the funniest shit I've seen in awhile.)

Netanyahu is obviously not building gas chambers to gas the jews, but he is overseeing exceptional brutality being done to a group of people, most of whom are innocent. Nazism isn't only about jews, it's about all minorities or other ethnicities than the own one more broadly. Apart from the jews, the Nazis also killed a lot of polish people and anyone they deemed 'deviant'. Just because 'Nazis killed jews' is the only piece of information that stuck to the cultural zeitgeist doesn't mean it's the only thing you should focus on when determining if someone is a Nazi or not.

I wish I could upvote this harder. The Jewish people were subjected to horrific evils, but that wasn't just going to stop with them.

Society did a great job of teaching about the atrocities except to really hammer home that it was the "other" that was the target, not just that single group; they are the first, but wouldn't be the last if the Nazis were allowed to continue.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

It didn't just stop with them.

Slavs, gypsies, LGBT people (I guess this one actually happened before Jews), some war prisoners, Communists, blacks, etc were targeted and holocausted too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

That's a good callout on me! I didn't mean to insinuate it was only that group one at a time, so thank you!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Nazis were also famously fascist, had no elections, had a strong security system to squash internal dissent and brooked no protest, none of which apply to Israel.

I get the appeal of labelling things you oppose as nazis but you can't just pick and choose what aspects fit and then apply the term nazi, it just makes us look dumb.

When someone gets banned from a site and complains that site is run by nazis, if we're using your standard of picking and choosing then that person is as correct as you are as the site is allowing no dissent and removing those who do. But in reality (I pray) we both look at that person and think less of their complaint because of the silliness of their comparison.

Same thing here. Use words that are accurate, genocidal would be a fair one if you believe it but nazi, it just makes you look fucking silly.

It's a sad truth and I'm not sure why it's funny

Yes. Zionists are nazis. It's not hard.

Racist, expansionist, genicodal fascists heavily into ethnic cleansing and lebensraum. Sound familiar?

It was never about the specific ethnicities, it was about power. Back in the 1930s, Jews made a convenient target - they were isolated and 'other' enough, and they were slowly gaining equality.

The nazis were able to exploit the fear and resentment this caused, declare Jews the great enemy, and ramp up to a campaign of extermination to bolster their power and give cover to their ongoing invasions.

These days, Jewish people aren't occupying the same social niche. You can't exactly get people to riot about Elaine, after all.

However, LGBTQ (especially T) people make a fine substitute in the US, as do Latinx people.

And in Israel, they have the Palestinians to pick on.

It's the same game, same tactics, same everything - only the specific names change.

So one being nazi has to hate jews? He can't be a nazi if he hates something else, but otherwise acts like one?

If you mean literally a "spiritual member" of original Nazi party, then yeah probably, although nazi-germany was also exterminating other groups they saw as genetic garbage.

Definition of a nazi has changed a bit and somewhat fused with general facism.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. You understood perfectly.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Okay.... Because I'm morbidly curious I guess, uhhh, what exactlt do you think nazis are most famous for? Like if you had to guess say one or two policies (hint, they might have affected gas prices?)

[–] [email protected] 38 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (5 children)

I'm very well aware of the Holocaust, thanks. Not only is it taught in schools extremely extensively where I live, but I have family near Kraków, and I've been to (relatively) nearby Auschwitz 4 or 5 times.

You're obviously hinting that someone who is Jewish cannot be a Nazi, but that's categorically untrue.

There were Jewish Nazis in 30s/40s Germany/Austria, and there are Jewish Nazis today.

Netanyahu is genocidal. He is racist. He is trying to create an ethnostate. He is expansionist. He talks of getting rid of undesirables. He defends people literally doing Nazi salutes.

He is a Nazi.

Lol you're either trolling or are a giant moron who thinks basically that:

if X is most famous for Y, then Y must be the definition of X, which is blatantly untrue in most if not all situations, Steve Jobs is famous for "creating the iPhone" but he never did that, nor is the definition of "iPhone creator" - "Steve Jobs". It doesn't even make grammatical sense.

Even on like a blokey common sense level Nazis weren't even most famous for the holocaust to the average room temp IQ ignoramus, they were most famous for WW2.

Epistemology isn't jeapoardy and words have meanings that you can easily look up in your free time on websites like google.com and Wikipedia.org or even a dictionary of your choice to start with, all without wasting time of commenters here.

Blocked.

Are you aware that Nazis targeted more than just Jewish people? They rounded up and killed gay people, Romanis, Slavs, and anyone else who wasn't part of their chosen in-group.

So to answer your question: Nazis are most famous for rounding up and killing millions of people whom the Nazis felt were subhuman. They were famous for working to create an ethno-state.

Serious question, if Netanyahu is a nazi why isn't his government fascist? Literally 10% of the population of Israel was protesting him in 7/2023 demanding his removal and the Israeli state just let the protestors continue living. If Bibi is a nazi why didn't his government pursue that population?

Netanyahu is a corrupt piece of shit. Him taking bribes from Musk is more likely than Netanyahu being a nazi.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 4 months ago (8 children)

His government is fascist.

The definition of 'fascist' is somewhat more complex than 'a person who murders 10% of his county's population due to political differences'.

Do you think there weren't people against the Nazis in 1930s Germany? The bulk of them weren't killed either, so I guess by your logic Hitler also wasn't a fascist or a Nazi?

Fascists have an order of operations, they don't just round up all their enemies at the same time. First they attack their greatest opposition, which in Israel's case is the Palestinian resistance.

If they ever managed to crush the resistance they'd start going after the other enemies of the state.
