Lol, no. Trump cancelled the tariffs after both said they'd retaliate, not because they both agreed drugs and cartels are bad.

How is this a "lol no"?

"Take this same deal or we retaliate". Is that not what the meme says. Did he not get the same deal in the end? Was retaliation not always implied? Does this meme imply they agreed cartels are not bad?

The meme makes it seem like Trump backed down because Canada and Mexico tricked Trump into thinking he got something when he really didn't. He backed down because of the retaliation, not because he was tricked.

Wait, so Trump imposed tariffs that are disadvatnageous to the other countries and thought that there won't be any retaliation? Is he that stupid?

Shhh, I know, but I wanted to hear some of that guy's excuses

Trump has said that he's very pleased with how the negotiations went. That means he thinks he got something out of his super epic tariff strat.

Believing that Trump wanted to impose tariffs with no expectation of retaliation and then being blindsided by the counter tariffs so he backed down is just naive. The plan was always to "negotiate".

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mostly I agree, but I think him saying he is pleased is for his cult. They don't look deeper into the things he says and if he says he did well for America, they will eat that shit up.

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I don't want to give him too much credit but it's been clear that he is at least capable enough to actually lie to his audience while doing something else.

People believing he imposed these tariffs thinking that there would be no retaliation are also being lied to in the exact same way.

I think it's indicative of not paying attention for quite some time at this point to think Trump ever means what he says or has plans apart from rape and pillage.

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Maybe you're reading into the meme to much. At least you understand how stupid Trump is that this amounts to "tricking" him.

Trump is strong! 🦍 Never backing down!

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm still salty neither Mexico or Canada stood up and said the trade deal trump won't stop complaining about, is what he took credit for in 2018.
