Economics Explained has an interesting video on the topic. After WWII, Japan became the first country in Asia to undergo an industrial revolution and soon became the second largest economy after the US and was by many accounts set to match or even overtake the US. They then suffered an economic collapse due to unchecked growth and speculative markets and decided to never again speculate on the future and just stick to tried and true methods.

Since the 1990s, Japan's economy has barely changed while other nations have seen huge growth. You'd assume that would mean Japan is now far behind, but they aren't. They seem to have mastered keeping everything the same for decades without the normal decline that comes with it.

Not having enough cash to eat food until your next payday is dystopian no matter how it's done. I think this is more to hide the fact that Door Dash is charging way too much for their service. I've never used it but I've had friends quit using the app because of the realization that they're paying $50 for McDonalds. Turning the checkout price into $12.50, that you'll be paying four times over, reduces the sticker shock and avoids people getting a reality check.

Oh man, now I want to read an isekai about a SovCiv reincarnating into a fantasy world and trying to solve all their problems with SovCiv tactics!

While I'm all for spray painting a Musk company because he's a dick, I'm not sure spray painting an electric car company to protest inaction on climate change makes a whole lot of sense.

I have a relative that, while working as a police detective specializing in fraud, lost a lot of money in a Ponzi scheme. It was his belief that he would always be able to tell if something was a scam that sunk him. Definitely embarrassing, but it always reminds me that anyone can be scammed by the right offer.

I play in 4k with DLSS turned off!

I first played it on a 5 year old computer and could barely get 10 fps on the lowest settings. I upgraded knowing that pretty much every other game now is wanting crazy hardware to run. I now have a very expensive top of the line rig that can run the game on max settings with a silky smooth 40 fps...which seems to be the max anyone can get even in benchmarking videos. I haven't played this patch so not sure if that's fixed yet.

Other than the ridiculous hardware requirements, the game is very much like all the other STALKER games. You wander around dreary forests and swamps completing quests or searching for items. If you liked the other games you'll like this one.

Annoying parts for me have been all the walking and the mutants being bullet sponges. Walking takes up a lot of game time and I wish there was an option for fast travel. I know not everyone would want that but I'd personally like the choice. Sometimes I just want to get back to the settlement to trade my loot and don't want to spend 20 minutes walking through an empty forest. I often run from mutants when I can because it'll take 100 rounds to kill one and they don't drop any loot.

Jesus quite literally loved prostitutes. It's in the gospel.

It literally says anyone who watches Neon Genesis Evangelion is a criminal.

From the section on what constitutes 'obscene':

I've recently started using the Boost for Lemmy app on my phone and it's amazing. I was using Liftoff before but I'm switching over. However, I've noticed an issue. When I browse through communities using Liftoff I see a lot more posts and comments than when I use Boost.

I figured this was an issue with Boost at first, but when I used my computer to edit these screenshots I noticed the same thing happens in my browser!

Opening up https://lemmy.world/c/boostforlemmy I see all the posts that Liftoff shows. Of course I'm not logged in since my account is on Lemmy.ca.

When I log into Lemmy.ca and view the community though: https://lemmy.ca/c/[email protected] I only see the posts that Boost shows! Many posts are now missing!

I figured this is an issue with Lemmy.ca blocking stuff. But wait! The most recent post (titled "Bug: Hiding all read posts also hides...") has the URL https://lemmy.world/post/6954944 which, of course, does not allow me to comment on since I'm not logged in. If I search for that post through Lemmy.ca I find the equivalent post with the URL: https://lemmy.ca/post/7377534 which now allows me to comment on it through my Lemmy.ca account.

Does any one know what's going on here? Clearly Lemmy.ca can "see" all the posts in the BoostForLemmy community on Lemmy.world. Even Liftoff manages to show all of them! So why does my browser and Boost for Lemmy not show everything unless I specifically search it out?

I made this a while back to use as a background for my phone. What do you think?
