Seems that the team that was let go was an R&D branch of six people that primarily worked on gameplay/level mechanics. So clearly the game is feature complete and won't need new levels or gameplay.

And this is why innovation stifles.

"Shipped bois, can all the R&D, send out the season passes. Its profit time."

Now your next game is either the same slop or worse and you dont know why. Well you fired the people who make the next game interesting.

Yeah ... I mean why not keep going with other things to R&D? The game industry is apparently full of these types of shenanigans.
