Wait until the tankies come in here to tell you that he's a patriot trying to stop them from leaving the square so they could continue to keep the peace

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Can the tankies even see the gif?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

WHY are you on ml, though, if you're not a tankie?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It said technology oriented, self-hosting, privacy stuff and I didn't know any better. It doesn't seem to degrade my experience, I browse what I browse. I haven't bothered to move, mostly out of laziness

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 weeks ago

Pretty much the same for me. I'm a FLOSS developer and it made sense to join the host closest to the development of Lemmy. I don't really follow any of the more political groups, I'm mostly here for the science, trek and programming memes. I guess I'll have to test the subscription portability if the home server gets more widely de-federated though.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's more kinds of Communist than Stalinist.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Of course, but .ml is mostly by and for Marxist-Leninists aka Stalinists aka tankies.

Dessalines himself banned me for a month from several communities (including technology and memes) for very mildly criticizing Chinese government authoritarianism in a comment in the .ml world politics community and that's very typical of ml moderation.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

Damn they sound based

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

What was the comment you got banned for?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Fuck em. Let em come.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

This gif that's objectively depicting tanks leaving the square?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

They think it's AI generated.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

In the US they run over protesters. Just sayin.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Based on some of the other comments you're making, yes more than one country can be bad. And the crazy part is it doesn't justify either country, both are still bad

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Liberals always tell me to support the lesser evil when it's election time, but when I apply that logic to geopolitics they get mad lol

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

When it comes to voting you are presented with a choice. You can abstain, but you will have to live with the result. You lose nothing by making as best of a choice as you can. To date I've not once been presented with the option to move to a new country, but if either were better I would chose the best option for myself even if neither is ideal.

Both can still be bad options, but I find it hard to believe that neither is better than the other.

Functionality when it comes to geopolitics I get absolutely no choice on it, so there's not really a point in ranking evil unless I get the opportunity to chose. Then I absolutely will rank evils to find the best place for myself

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

By your logic, there's not really a point in declaring evil. You might as well have no opinion about any of this.

Why even learn about geopolitics or other countries in the first place? You get "absolutely no choice on it" after all.

You might as well say nothing at all.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

I see no point in ranking evil, however my country does interact on a global stage and theoretically that is guided by our representatives that the people chose. It's good to stay informed and know which countries regularly abuse human rights. It's a long list.

Ideally I will be able to vote for a canidate that does not want to funnel money to Israel, they are perpetuating a genocide after all. If one is not available I'll go down a long list of issues to determine the best choice.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

And I try to choose representatives that will keep their hands off China.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

i do see a point.

one is meddling in my country and is raising hell all over the planet.

the other hasn't dropped a single bomb in more than 50 years.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

Is there a forty year old truncated clip of a protestor not being harmed in America that you endlessly reposted, including every time America is mentioned? Or do you just do that with China?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

One more commonality between China and the US.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Tank man didn't get run over.

Do people not know this?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

No, it just caused a giant massacre when they didn't run him over. Much better.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

How does that make sense?

They didn't run this guy over as they were leaving the square well after the events of that night had ended. I don't believe there's any proven record of tanks killing anyone at all (specifically tanks, I'm not denying that there was bloodshed).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

I've seen a few photos of bodies that looked run over. But nothing that rises to that insane claim that sometimes floats around that they mushed a crowed and washed them down the drain.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

What?

What exactly do you think happened?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 weeks ago

No, because the whole thing wasn't commonly aired, most people I ever heard talking about invented a completely different ending which they swore they saw.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

No, Not Tank man. But Feng Zhang for example.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Based on the fact that he got medical attention and based on the tanks explicitly not running over Tank Man, I'm inclined to think this was an accident.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

He got medical attention not from the military, but because other protesters rushed him to a hospital.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The military allowed those other protesters to rush him to a hospital and allowed the hospital to treat him. Why didn't the military stop them?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Queer, we've met a couple of times on this platform. We both know you would not extend the same benefit of the doubt to, say, the forces perpetrating the 1968 Orangeburg massacre. They too allowed people to be treated by hospitals. They too allowed protesters to be rushed to safety after being shot. Hell, they even took them there themselves.

So why would we do that to the military?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

There's a vast difference between someone getting run over and someone being shot. Being run over can actually be an accident. Opening fire is never an accident.

Also, people get gunned down by the US government all the time. It's extremely common. China doesn't resort to that kind of violence nearly as often.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (3 children)

we usually come to point out that if this event was so brutal why didn't this guy get run over?

are you guys aware this guy has a friendly chat with the driver afterwards, right? all captured on camera too, i'm pretty sure there are close up photos beyond just the video.

why do liberals love using this image as some symbol of chinese evil.

???

Citing objective geographic reality of the tanks leaving the square makes one a tankie?

Are you people on fucking shrooms?

Guys check this out, maps and directions are tankie now lmfao what's next, GPS is a communist mind control satellite constellation?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Lack of reading comprehension claims yet another victim

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I swear they edited it

Either that or the weed was stronger than I expected

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

There's an edit icon next to the comment so you have that going for you.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

I edited the word patriot when my phone originally autocorrected to parrot, if you're talking about me.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

Acknowledging objective facts does seem to be the main thing western liberals hate tankies for, yes

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago

Well, the tankies are correct on that one.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

That they are leaving the square is literally an undisputable fact though. Are undisputed facts "tankie" now?
