Literally realized, "how will I put this stuff in the car in order to have my hands free to grab the keys if I don't have the keys" and turned around just in time to see the door fully closed.

And I always turn the latch to lock itself when I step outside, or I'd never remember to lock the door.

Thank goodness for the hide-a-key with a house key stuck in the filth on the underside of my car.

People lock their houses before going out of the actual house? WTF? A deadbolt is the only real way to lock a front door, and is often the only way it's locked.

A deadbolt is more secure than the lock on the doorknob, but both can be picked or broken. Lots of homes have both locks on the front door, and in a lot of areas just the doorknob lock is secure enough if you're leaving for a couple hours in the middle of the day.

I grew up being told to lock the deadbolt any time the house was left empty. Seems like common sense to me, but I suppose I didn't grow up normal.

A deadbolt is great, but it's easier to break a window than pick even a bad lock. If you don't live in a neighborhood where everyone has bars over their windows, you probably don't need to keep your deadbolt locked all the time.
