Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

We honestly should rename GIMP. It’s a bad name. I think a new and better acronym would substantially improve brand recognition. Something like:

Free Utility for Creative Kits, Brushes, Overlays, & Imaging

    FUCKBOI

~~Free~~ FOSS Utility for Creative Kits Brushes, Overlays, & Imaging

You forgot that for whatever reason we have to have an acronym in our acronym.

FUCKBOI Utility for Creative Kits, Brushes, Overlays, & Imaging

it's have to be recursive too.

I'm So Meta Even This Acronym

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Like "Wine Is Not an Emulator"

[–] [email protected] 26 points 4 weeks ago

This individual for position of authority! I endorse this.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

There was a fork that did nothing but replace the name and graphics to GLIMPSE

The gimp oss community is really fucking rabid about NOT EVER changing the name

[–] [email protected] 43 points 4 weeks ago

Probably because they never thought to change it to FUCKBOI.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

    Based, Tbh

We shouldn't fuck ourselves to the sensibilities of sterile bullshit corporate AmeriKKKa

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

    We should call it Fotosshop

[–] [email protected] 20 points 4 weeks ago

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago

Are you the person who write us law's titles?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

I genuinely believe Fedora would be far more popular if it had a different name

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 weeks ago

    M’distro!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

Like name it after something you don’t grab when you meet someone gallantly

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

At least it's better than Red Hat.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

at least this one’s not an ableist slur, so there’s that!

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Honest question, what is the ableist slur being discussed?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

TIL I always imagine the guy in the basement of the shop in the movie pulp fiction

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

who was called that because he was mentally differently abled

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

How do you come to that conclusion? He was a guy in a full on latex-BDSM suit on a leash, that they kept in a box in the basement.

We don't learn much about his character or mental ability in the movie. It is much more likely, that he was called a gimp in the BDSM sense, that is also mentioned in the Wiktionary entry that was linked here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

pretty sure that use of the term originated with that exact movie scene.

There's also a point where the gimp tries to speak and it's pretty clear he has at least a speech impediment if not a mental disability.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 weeks ago

    You mean disabled?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

I just figured because he was abducted chained and abused in a basement I didn't realize, that makes it even more sad

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

wait, it's a synonym of "nerd"? huh.
