Yeah, every Mexican flag in all of these photos is NOT helping their cause any. Just looks like exactly what the GOP says it is, an invasion. I'm not even sure I've SEEN an American flag during all the protest photos going around.

[–] [email protected] 75 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If you weren’t there, what you mean is you haven’t been shown any American flags in the protests.

https://www.newyorker.com/news/the-lede/immigration-protests-threaten-to-boil-over-in-los-angeles

Anyone who thinks there needs to be more American flags at the protests is welcome to bring them along with themselves. But sitting here criticizing the people actually off their ass and trying to protect democracy and their neighbors is bullshit.

Further, the right is literally never going to see resistance to Trump positively. Anyone who has been on the Fox News drip for the past 20 years is so unhinged that living in California is a crime to them. Asking people whose neighbors and family members have been kidnapped by the federal government to hide their heritage in their protests because it might offend people that already hate them and want them gone is ridiculous. At least if you want to keep those people as allies.

protect democracy

Are they trying to protect democracy, or are they just trying to keep their family from being deported?

I don't see why someone waving the Mexican flag, would be fighting for American democracy...

[–] [email protected] 55 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Are these anti-Nazi protestors holding up a Star of David trying to protect democracy in Germany, or are they just trying to keep their family from being deported?"

🤡

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (8 children)

You do know that when Germans protest against Nazis they commonly use the German flag, right? 🤡 indeed.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 2 weeks ago

No they don't. We don't have half of the nationalist zeal you guys sport. Please refrain from talking about topics you do not know shit about.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

No. I didn't.

Because they don't. German Flags are usually shown at the Nazi or right wing rallies, not at anti-fascist rallies. You absolute fucking dunce.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 weeks ago

am german. can confirm.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You really have no clue how much American "patriotism" is looked down upon on this side of the pool, do you? Nationalism is a nazi thing, no one who opposes nazis here would use a national flag during a protest.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 weeks ago

You do know that when Germans use the German flag when protesting they commonly support Nazis causes, right?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 weeks ago

Germans against Nazis wouldn't use the German flag. If you brought one to the protest you'd probably be considered an intruder from the Nazi side

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 weeks ago

If you'd bring a German flag to an anti-nazi rally, people will look at you weird. At more radical ones, you'll get smacked by a guy carrying an "Antifaschistische Aktion" flag.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's heartwarming to see all the people from German instances show up to roast this dude.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not German and thought "huh, I'm not German; maybe I'm actually wrong, and I'm not going to overstep here"... And then the Germans arrived.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

Nothing more satisfying than hitting someone with the old "brother, I live there, you're wrong"

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Really? Which Protests do you mean? The vast majority of German flags I saw on anti Nazi demos in Germany had been mounted to Buildings or the hands of some Nazi Idiot at the counterprotest.

Going one step towards the center of the political spectrum from the firmly left learning anti Nazi Demos, there are the anti AFD Demos which also attract(ed) people with far more moderate centrist political views than the average Antifa member, thus being more likely to support the idea of the state of Germany in its current form. Still, most flags you'd see were for pride / lgbtq+ or political organisations.

You might see a German flag from time to time but i think it's just plain wrong to call it common.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

How is protesting for their family and neighbors (weird you left that one out, you don’t have to be related to someone kidnapped to protest) over having their Constitutional rights violated not protecting democracy?

Also, touching a Mexican flag doesn’t actually revoke your citizenship or residency, regardless of what Fox News says.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Also, touching a Mexican flag doesn’t actually revoke your citizenship or residency, regardless of what Fox News says.

LOL WUT? What in earthly green fuck are you on about now? Nobody ever claimed this, so not only are you straw-manning NOT saying something, you're ALSO straw-manning words that were never said in the first place.

You build up being the victim because I didn't include some special case that you wanted me to, and then pretend that I'm some righty? lol - You truly are pathetic.

The point is that I'm pretty sure these people more simply don't give 2 shits about "Due process" or any of the plethora of other dipshit, dumbass, illegal as fuck, traitorous shit that DJT is doing -- and pretty much only care about deportations.

If you care about America, your country, and fighting Fascism, then you're flying a US flag, and taking that symbol back.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I don't see why someone waving the Mexican flag, would be fighting for American democracy...

Do you actually need me to lead you around by the nose and explain to you that American citizens can hold a Mexican flag in protest?

If you care about America, your country, and fighting Fascism, then you're flying a US flag, and taking that symbol back.

Then go fucking do it instead of being a keyboard warrior criticizing the people actually doing shit. Jealousy’s an ugly color.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Do you need me to lead you around by the nose and explain to you that American citizens (Are they? You can't tell that from a picture.) holding Mexican flags in protest, don't give 2 shits about "saving American Democracy", and care more about deportations only?

I don't see Mexican flags at "No Kings" protests. You know - The ones that are actually focused on American Democracy. I see American flags. Pride flags. etc. -- Through all of these LA protest pictures, I see nothing but the flag of a foreign country...which I am saying plays into the story that Republicans are telling the American people.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Fascinating you could determine from the picture that all of the thousands of people who showed up only care about deportations.

Thankfully the people of LA are’t stupid enough to fall for this bullshit. We see our neighbors with Mexican flags every day, it doesn’t make them belong here any less.

Through all of these LA protest pictures, I see nothing but the flag of a foreign country...

Babe you already did this. Scroll up and follow the links this time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

We see our neighbors with Mexican flags every day, it doesn’t make them belong here any less.

Never made such a claim. You're so caught up in thinking I'm an enemy that you knee-jerk into all sorts of accusations and false claims. I'm saying that it's bad for convincing the American public that you're on the right side of things. Other Americans seeing the national guard coming down on people flying American flags, is bad optics for DJT. Seeing them coming down on people flying nothing but Mexican flags, looks good to the mostly racist American populace. That's literally the only thing I'm saying.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, you’re not saying it. You just think no Mexican Americans, etc should show up with Mexican flags. Oh, also more American flags. What else to make the protest perfect so that no rightoid can say anything bad about it? Better get it all out here so the people can do everything perfectly to your standards.

Talk is cheap and the criticisms of anyone not at the protests are worthless.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If I don't say it, then I am not saying it. Men don't pull that bullshit. There's no undertones here, there's no reading between the lines. There IS no between the lines. I didn't say it, so stop fucking saying that's what I mean, because I don't. You don't get to dictate what my words mean.

[–] al_Kaholic 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Thanks for the chuckle. the Hank hills above you won't get it until their family is kidnapped unfortunately.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Hank Hill is often reasonable and would likely come around. If only conservatives were actually like him.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I'm saying it has everything to do with optics.

Big angry crowds all flying Mexican flags just plays into their agenda. It looks like this isn't Americans fighting back against ICE, it looks like it's Mexicans fighting back against ICE IN America...

Which in turn, just makes it look (to the average American) that they're onto something, and that the Trump team is doing what they say they are.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You want me to believe anyone in this country cares about "optics" when a man in orange make-up blathers on about nothing, live on television every single day.

Nope, optics is just another scape goat that keeps lefties on the benches while the right is burning the constitution.

Action > optics

Force the rights hand. Its time.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 weeks ago

Why the fuck would the protectors wave the flag of the government that is oppressing them?

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Why tf would they carry an American flag at a protest. Thats stupid enough for me to assume you are a bot.

Fucking Crayondevourer indeed

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure what the hostility is for. The very thing the protesters are standing up for is the correct idea of America. The flag should be for real patriots who believe in the Constitution, not Trump and his insurrectionist ilk.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

This. Exactly. Why burn the US flag and fly another nations flag when you're supposedly 'fighting for American democracy'? It doesn't make sense, and the optics aren't good.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You are well within your rights to protest using any flag your like. Don't buy the bullshit. It's called freedom of speech

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I've seen a couple. They were getting burned. Nothing about it helps their cause any. They're declaring themselves enemies of America. Brain dead.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What’s brain dead is thinking people only have a right to free speech if it fits what you think their optics should be.

Anyone who wouldn’t support the burning of an American flag is an enemy of the US Constitution.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Wtf are you talking about?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

You've got little concept of what their cause is. Their cause is "you've pushed us to the breaking point and this society is no longer worth enabling, the social contract is dead." It's not to make the liberals sad, it's to hit everyone who wants to enable the system through disruption until their grievances are acknowledged. That's always been the method of even the most peaceful of successful protest movements. The entire point is to flex political power(and I'm not talking about voting here), not hope some liberal gives them thoughts and prayers.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If you truly think that, that it's so bad that the social contract is broken, then leave LA. Simple.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

"Just become a refugee if it's so bad, don't attempt political change. Or maybe just commit suicide." There's a reason nobody's actually giving a shit that you're not going to lend your support to them. It's always been obvious that your types are the ones that need to feel the disruption because empathy isn't a language you understand.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well if they wanted to fix it, they could have. They just are so left wing that they refuse to.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

At this point I don't even think you know who you're talking about.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

A dumbass ICE supporter in the wild.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You got downvoted but you're right

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

He's wrong by default because he fell for the LeftRightism demobilisation memes, but it is true that nearly all politicians work for the preservation of the status above all else. Those that performatively go against the grain, are tokenist politicians, like Noam Chomsky, serce the system by denouncing it. Autoflagellants.

Now the way out of this is "Effective Action", organized, targeted, effective not demonstrative. The demonstration is the warning before action. The proof they mean business with barely contained violence.

The low IQ Republican take who aren't smart enough to get the context.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Haven't voted Republican. So you missed the mark there.

In fact, just seen protestors in person an hour ago screaming that LA used to be Mexico and they're taking it back - so the arguments that they're fighting for American Democracy are bullshit from your ilk as well.

Granted, I know that emotions are pretty high right now - but my point stands.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

That is probably a good point.
