Brother, it’s Harry Potter which is not exactly a thing you can’t live without lmfao

You’re making it sound like they’re asking you to give up breathing

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I can choose what I can and cannot live without. Without your insane judgment and ideas off a single situation. But alas. Nuance is lost on modern society.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Nuance? Nuance is not to jump to conclusions about the entire trans community and the "insane judgement" of anyone who disagrees with you. You're making all kinds of assumptions and not demonstrating much ability with nuance so far.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

I was told earlier to walk into the sea for my opinion of enjoying Harry Potter. I am not generalizing

[–] [email protected] 26 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Do you... not know what the word generalize means? It's to take something specific - like, say, the interaction you're describing - and use it to infer the general characteristics of an entire community. To reduce an entire group of people to your anecdotes of individuals.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I understand you think my single comment I mentioned is my only experience with this reaction in your community. But that's just naive and rude to assume id generalize in that fashion. This is consistent behaviour from the community towards this fandom.

But I'm the one generalizing. Lol.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That's... literally the definition of generalizing. As if an entire demographic could be reduced and characterized by your interactions online about a children's book series.

Ohhh, you're just a transphobe using this as an excuse to soapbox. Cool. Cool cool cool. Nuanced. Totally. Go touch grass and get a life.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Lmao. You don't use personal experience to inform your decisions??? Wild. Insane maybe?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm serious. Make sure you take some time to go outside. Take a breath of fresh air. Look at some trees, watch the leaves rustle in the wind. Take off your shoes, and feel the blades of grass beneath your feet. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face. Your life doesn't have to be this way.

You don't need to insult an entire group of minorities based on your meaningless conversations with faceless strangers - most of whom are almost certainly not trans themselves - about a children's book series on the internet.

I think this has nothing to do with stories about wizards. I think you just enjoy hate.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's completely absurd to me I do not enjoy Hate. Hate is being directed at me for being a fan of Harry Potter I am not directing or facilitating hate. I don't harbor any I'll will towards anyone.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's nice. Stop spreading hate then.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's the thing. I do not believe I have. Yet here we are. Lol. I just would like to enjoy my thing I enjoy without being hated for it. As I stated earlier. So sorry you don't want me to enjoy what I enjoy that you do not.

We can argue on the merits of supporting JK all day as you spend money at Walmart or whatever shithole that oppresses way more human beings lol I haven't spent any money on her so. I have no remorse for my enjoyment of her series as I HAVE NOT supported her hate. Not that you care though.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm not referring to anyone else, or anything you support. This isn't about little stories about wizards. I'm talking about you. The words you're saying. You're spreading hate. That's all you've come here to do. That's all you're doing.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

No. I've come here to defend people that like Harry Potter but do not like trans hate. And you've all shown exactly why I made my comment lol

Edit:"It's almost like we shouldn't blame others for another. I dunno. Maybe I'm a trans hater like the trans community wants to paint anyone that enjoys Harry Potter. "

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's nice. You've done a wonderful job of proving you're a transphobe with or without your love of a children's book.

I can do edits too. At what point in this conversation have I given you reason to believe I am trans? You're the only one painting an entire group with the same brush.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Lmao. People are so quick to judgment but have no understanding of the human element. It's hilarious to watch in realtime tbh. Our society is so fucked by all you "cancellers" ruining the ability to have actual discourse and just jumping to hateful reasoning and assumptions. And this thread further enforces that opinion rather than detracts that thinking. I think it's something we should all bear in mind. This won't impact my personal feelings overall but it's very interesting to watch it play out.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah, yes. Cancelling is the great threat to society. What a lovely little dream. Go enjoy the human element. Go outside. Breathe the fresh air.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Currently outside. It's quite nice. I love fresh air. Just like you. As I also. Am a human being with immense ability to understand and have conversation. But you don't seem to want to engage but rather inflict.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I know, I'm such a canceller. I have inflicted such pain and hatred in this exchange. I will go reflect on this. Your 'immense ability to understand and have conversation' has done wonders.

You didn't listen, though. You're not staring at the trees if you're staring at your screen. You need to breathe, and watch the leaves rustle in the wind.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

"you don't seem to want to engage but want to inflict"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"You’re not staring at the trees if you’re staring at your screen. You need to breathe, and watch the leaves rustle in the wind."

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But I'm not looking at the screen typing this. I'm literally looking at my garden right now. Lol. Whatever dude. Keep trolling. I am actually attempting to have discourse cause I am tired of this situation.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You're still staring at your screen, reading this. That's not staring at the trees. I'm not trolling. Your life can be better than this. You have a garden to enjoy, and yet you're here. With us. Using a children's book as an excuse to generalize and soapbox on hate.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yet I'm doing the opposite of soapboxing on hate. I am asking people to STOP hating the fans. And yet here you are staring at your screen pushing the same type of hate JK does Nonsenical.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

pushing the same type of hate JK does

The fact that you think it's okay to compare this conversation with a billionaire investing in hostile propaganda against oppressed minorities is really all that needs to be said.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm talking about blanket hate. You telling me my life is not okay beucae of what I choose. That's her type of hate. Correct? Not investments or whatever power she may hold. You currently are impacting me with that because of her. Correct?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Incorrect, her type of hate is investing in hostile propaganda against oppressed minorities.

Also, being transgender is not a choice. That's transphobia. The fact that you're at all willing to compare the plight of Harry Potter fans to the oppression of transgender people is again, all that needs to be said. Transphobe.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I was responding about me personally I was not at all implying gender is a choice. Sorry if my phrasing was triggering that was not my intent.

Edit: sorry for another edit I am truly not trying to be in bad faith. I hope saying gender is not a choice is the correct way to phrase that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That's fine, gender is not a choice. The point is that what you're describing is not her type of hate. Her type of hate is hatred against people for what they are, not the media they consume.

They can't stop being transgender, but she wants them to. So she hates them in such a way that she does not want them to exist. This is why it can be so offensive to compare hatred against fans of a certain type of media, to hatred against transgender people.

Because of people who share her views and write the laws that she helps lobby for against gender expression and gender-affirming treatment, some of those people stop existing.

Suicide is an epidemic, especially among transgender people. Gender-affirming treatment literally reduces the rate of teenage suicide, and political opposition to gender affirming treatment therefore increases the rate of teenage suicide.

I understand that some people may say terrible things like "walk into the sea," and they're wrong to do so. And it's wrong to paint an entire community by what those people do - many who probably aren't actually trans themselves.

But she invests time and money into actually causing people to commit suicide.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Your exchange with this dude is what I imagine you would get if you asked chatgpt "argue with me, but be wrong about every single thing, including small stuff that doesn't even matter"

I don't think I've ever seen someone have so many shit takes back to back. Dude is batting .000

"I'm not looking at my screen bro, I swear, nuh uh"

What is it even for?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Nice to see someone else interested enough to make it to the end of this thread I feel like i’m doin anthropology research

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I normally wouldn't indulge or engage like that, because trolls and LLM's are so common and even in good faith it can be a complete waste of time. But I wasn't doing anything else productive, and I honestly think they were genuine if only because of how odd the exchange was.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah I wasn't digging on you for doing it or anything, but just damn dude, you were really trying to help them across the finish line and they just were not having it lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Wow lol. The density of some human beings is so immense it might never break.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Lies and slander. I am not a transphobe. But alas. You are free to your opinion.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

you were told to go swimming? are you a cat do you hate water or something?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago
[–] [email protected] 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Saying "I can't live without Harry Potter", that's hyperbole. Or if you're serious, it's just funny.

The argument is that funding Harry Potter directly funds JJ Rowling - whom then proudly and openly uses her wealth to pay for campaigns to enact anti-trans legislation and pays suppot to regressive anti-LGBTQ groups. Its a boycott.

People are justified in judging those who know this yet continue to support Rowling's products monetarily or act in them as LGBT hostile.

From all the online back and forth I've seen though, few care if you pirate them therefore denying monetary support <- that's nuance.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Upon re reading it does come off that way but I was using the previous commentarys language towards it not being serious that I couldn't live without it. Apologies lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Ah, all good. I didn't downvote either way, just commented to try to make sense of the discussion. Sarcasm or facetious language is easily lost over text - thanks for clarifying
