The UN passed a resolution for an immediate ceasefire like a week ago...

It did as much as Biden's hollow words will now.

Cut of all aid and weapons sales to Israel and they might listen, anything else won't do anything

anything else won't do anything

I mean the US could also introduce a peace keeping resolution, but that would require the consent of Israel, ain't gonna happen. But at least it would be a strong message from the US.

We all know they won't even do that.

It could introduce a peace enforcement resolution at the security council. It would no doubt pass since everyone else at the table has been calling for a ceasefire for months. It would be a great opportunity to bring the west and China together.

We all know they won't do that either.

So no, other things would do things. The US executive branch just won't do them.

If it's anything more than incredibly mild criticism or ultra-vague accusations along with a wink and a nod, this Administration won't do it.

I think the problem is that US invested heavily in Israel for many decads so its very difficult to do something that could result in Israel switching alliance

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You have that backwards. AIPAC has invested in US politicians for decades. The money we send there comes right back into our politician's pockets. Biden received the most at 5 million to his campaigns.

Then there are weapons PACs. Military-Industrial Complex has every establishment politician by their grey, short, and curlies.

Fuck this world. Fuck the USA. Fuck Israel. Fuck this aggression on Palestinian civilians.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It goes both ways. Israel as always been a proxy for doing the US' dirty business in the region.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Saudi, Jordan and Egypt have been far better than israel. They host tonnes of American bases, are far more controllable and don't try to bomb Iranian embassies to start World War 3.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

There's your problem, you think the US disapproves of bombing the Iranian embassy. They don't, they just won't do it themselves. Bases are one thing, but Israel has, continues, and will provide plausible deniability for some truly disgusting actions.

America doesn't want war with Iran.

Israel is trying to escalate their war and involve America. Especially Netanyahu who is looking stay at war as long as possible

By bombing the Iranian embassy and committing other grave war crimes Iran will have to respond. At which point israel calls big brother Joe Biden to "defend them" against Iran. Thus dragging America into World War 3.

Israel does not benefit the U.S. in any way. We have NATO nations nearby and even bases in Kuwait. And that's in addition to all the carriers in the Med. They offer no strategic advantage.

We have no special financial investments with them. We do the same kind of trade we do with any other countries. A relationship with Israel offers us absolutely no financial benefit. None.

Our relationship is a favor to them, motivated mostly by religious mythology about the christian end-times that U.S. politicians are obsessed with. It's the dumbest of all possible reasons and no one will say it out loud in the news.

We need to defund this shit. And we need to help the victims.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

To who? They're almost universally hated by any nation around them, they've only made it this far with the US government hemorrhaging cash and arms to maintain a foothold.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Switching to what alliance? It's not like they're going to join BRICS.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That's part of it - they don't want to lose their investment. The other part is that if they do stop propping up Israel, they know another country like Russia or China will happily fill the void and reap all the benefits of the influence in the region. The US could cut ties and not be involved at all but it's not likely it would change much, unfortunately; Israel would just continue with new backers and the US would be in a worse position.

Not that that justifies the war and all the weapon sales on the US' part, of course. But I think, with that information, it's easy to see why there's some nuance to it, and why the US isn't keen to sever ties or be too harsh a critic.

Russia comes to mind. They'd accept Israel if they could benefit from it. Also Bibi get to be a plain old dictator without worrying too much about response from western allies. In exchange Russia get access to lot of western tech.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Unlikely as Russia is heavily in bed with Iran.

Israel is a giant liability. It really doesn't do much except control news networks and bribe politicians.

Tomorrows headlines:

"Biden approves sale of 40 drones, 300 tanks, and 6.02x10^23 Tomahawks to Israel"

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nah he made sure to approve the sale earlier this week before he did this so he wouldn't look a hypocrite.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

he nailed it 👌

Night Elf Molehawks

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

If only we could be wrong about that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Biden put conditions on Israel. Wish people would get good news sources.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Look at what Biden does, not what he says:

  • He just sent to Israel a shipment of 2000lb bombs, which raze entire quarters and are not used by the US itself because they're "too dangerous for civilians".

It's still doing the very same delay and dissemble talkie-talkie for the purposes of not losing the election he has been doing for 3 months.

I have no doubt his "warning" to Netanyahu came with a wink and a nod.

Or else he'll demand again, after the next shipment of weapons to Israel

I think Biden should stop funding Isreals genocide. Anything else is just lip service. Either shut up or do the right thing.

Lip service prolongs the discourse which is just another flub from the Biden campaign.

Sorry, Joe, I can't carry your ass over the finish line.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Turn up the pressure, Biden. Don't just give sweet words to Americans as you send bombs to Israel. You cannot have your genocide and a popular approval rating at the same time.

End the genocide. End support of Israel.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Suck it up and vote for us. Oh, offer representation? Get fucked asshole. Also if the democrats lose, it's all your fault for not voting with a big enough smile on your face.

Democrats chose genocide over their approval rating. They believe first past the post voting will keep them safe and sound. What are you gonna do about it? Vote republican?

With a electoral system like Ranked Choice voting, people would feel safe to vote for whomsoever they wish, as their vote would still be counted against the republicans even if their preference didn’t win.

Just search for videos on First Past the Post voting if you want an explanation on how and why the spoiler effect exists.

Electoral reform is possible in each individual state (for now), we dont need federal reform! Maine and Alaska have already passed electoral reform.

More political parties means a higher percentage of the population is represented by their choices in the voting booth. More people involved in the electoral process, more people engaged.

Its a win win win all around for not just the people, but also for the democratic party. More people voting means more democratic votes. The numbers dont lie. So what’s the hold up blue states?

Republicans are moving to make alternative electoral systems illegal in their states. Republicans LOVE first past the post voting. Why would you want to use the same voting system republicans want?

Some day we will be able to vote for who best represents our interests. We won’t need to grovel on our knees, begging for representation in government. We won’t need to wait for the Republican party to stop existing.

We can do it right now.

Consider starting a campaign to change how we vote in your own state! Force our representatives to compete with fresh outside ideas. We deserve the best representation, not excuses.

Sooo they ignored Bidens call for a ceasefire and they just opened a border crossing to let in still not enough food?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Which Hamas will never accept.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Hamas has already proposed a ceasefire since day 1.

Israel is the only party refusing a ceasefire.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Naah, that's not true. Hamas is blocking every ceasefire with impossible demands. Since forever, not just day one or whatever the number. Quite easy talking without evidence this is. Normally I'd bother producing links and stuff, but when I do you folks go "fake news", "not to be trusted". Well, this is good enough obviously.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No the Hamas demands are extremely reasonable. Prisoner swap and permanent ceasefire.

Israel just demands they get to continue Genociding after a temporary ceasefire which is an idiotic proposal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How is it extremely reasonable? They want full withdrawal from Gaza and pretending like nothing happened, then they get to negotiate who they let go for kidnapped people at a stupid ratio. Terrorist organization wants to not only remain in power but full withdrawal of far more powerful enemy and then even strengthen their ranks by exchanging for hostages they took when causing the whole mess. That's never going to happen. Hamas is history, one way or another and the sooner they realize that the sooner people stop suffering.

Ceasefire doesn't work with Hamas. They always use the time to arm more and cause more suffering for all parties involved.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

You are right israel should release their 3000+ hostages unconditionally. It's hard for Hamas to trust them since israel has already broken the previous deal and re-kidnapped many people from the previous swap.

Israel is a giant terrorist organization that needs to be disbanded as fast as possible.

Genocide enabler Biden wants Israel to pause the genocide until the election.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Start sending sandwiches, not bombs.

Americans speak a lot, and say nothing.
