Furry
General community for furry stuff and memes!
Please follow pawb.social rules, with addition of the following:
- AI-generated content should be clearly marked in the title of the post, though it is generally discouraged unless it is in some way unique. If it becomes excessive still and drowns out artists or otherwise becomes an issue this may be further restricted.
I've never felt out of place as I've always just just considered scalies as just a sub-category of the furry fandom. Same with avians, arthropods, or marines. Anyway I've found quite a few scalies on Mastodon and there is also discoverability by following hashtags. I haven't found much scalie specific communities on any Lemmy instances but if you feel up to creating and moderating one go for it.
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
Really, the 'I don't have much to post there' problem is what's keeping it from happening, I think. We can comfortably exist under the broader 'furry' umbrella, though - nobody's going to complain (or at least, nobody has complained yet) about scaly content here.
I do have to admit I'm part of the problem...! I think that this probably is the reason why meme communities on Lemmy are so big right now -- memes are designed to be reposted, so we're seeing a lot of that content opposed to original content (which isn't a bad thing, but it tends to drown out other content on All pages). Maybe I can get around to making more art for once and I can start to populate Lemmy with more content :)
But for right now, I agree that things are quite fine as they are. I don't really feel a need to create a separate community as I would on say, another larger platform, because right now this space (and others on the Fediverse) feels like a community where people's voices are actually heard. It's really refreshing, honestly. But yeah, it's nice to see what people think on this! Thanks for your input!
I think Lemmy is simply too small for that level of separation at the moment. Of course anyone is welcome to make a new community on this server, but I wouldn't say we are anywhere near the point of content saturation that it's necessary to split it up to prevent stuff from being drowned out. The server is fielding maybe a handful of posts a day locally across all communities, any kind of art or discussion at all will be seen and appreciated.
That's true, yeah. I do really like how the Fediverse is growing (and quickly too!) so we might see that start to happen later on (I sometimes already see a bit of niche communities on Lemmy being created). But at the same time, I do have to agree that although there's less posts, there's a genuineness to each post that really makes me appreciate them more.
I would say that posting your scaly content and tagging it with #scaly/#scalies would help, but I'm not sure about how #Lemmy treats hashtags when federating.
