When I was in California, I saw perfectly peeled lemons lying under a friend's lemon tree. He told me the rats did it - they ate the peel but were very careful not to bite into the sour inside.

How very nice and thoughtful of them πŸ’›

And they say Ratatouille is fiction...

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Rats truly are the goats of the lemon grass

[–] RunawayFixer@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

There's bound to be a market for that. I'd love to buy peeled lemons if the peeling came at little to no additional cost.

[–] IMALlama@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

That's interesting. Zested lemon (finely grated lemon peel) has a pretty strong flavor too. I guess it's not as intensely sour though.

What's funny is that it literally made my saliva glands go

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 28 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I did this recently, peeled a bunch of lemons in a fermentation experiment. The ones I peeled were extremely difficult to peel relative to oranges and tangerines. The tendency of peeling to cause a minor hangnail was particularly painful after around half a mason jar full.

The worst part was that the batch got mold contamination after the first 2 weeks and totally ruined all the effort.

[–] anindefinitearticle@sh.itjust.works 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Both of these problems you had are why you should wear gloves and sterilize all equipment before fermentation experiments.

[–] Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think it would be extremely difficult to peel a lemon while wearing gloves

Fair, nails are extremely useful. They also contain a lot of bacteria that can ruin fermentation experiments. Other tools exist.

is this ironic have yall genuinely never peeled a lemon or orange before?

edit, ty for the downvotes in response to a genuine question

edit 2 okay sounds like i am one of few who had done this thanks to those who answered

[–] metallic_z3r0@infosec.pub 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'd assume most people have peeled an orange, but probably not a lemon. Interesting question though.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

interesting! i guess maybe i am weird lol i have definitely peeled and cut both. i don’t think i have peeled a lime tho

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What was the purpose of peeling the lemon?

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Makes my mouth pucker just thinking about it!

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 3 points 10 months ago

[–] randomsnark@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

under what circumstances have you peeled a lemon

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 10 months ago

I have never has a reason to peel a lemon. I don't have to when I juice them and I don't have to when I slice them for a drink. So why would I?

[–] BassaForte@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

I was gonna say, it looks like a peeled orange, but yellow.

[–] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

That looks fuckin good

[–] OozingPositron@feddit.cl 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Put some salt on that, good shit.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Salt? I’ve never tried that, but it sounds like it would put my teeth on edge. I’ve taken the wedges and dipped them in sugar. Not good for you, but it’s lemonade-like.

[–] AffineConnection@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)
[–] OozingPositron@feddit.cl 9 points 10 months ago

So is apple cider vinegar, but it is still good shit.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 6 points 10 months ago

Everything we eat is bad for our teeth. Our teeth weren't designed to be brushed or for sugar or to eat such soft foods.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

God, that looks so delicious.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You monster! AI generated pictures are hell!

[–] Remotedeck@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 10 months ago

I looked it up and this is real

[–] hark@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

I like eating lemons by themselves so this doesn't disturb me at all. It looks delicious!

[–] Resonosity@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

As a math nerd, I love it. Love the symmetry of the shape.

Hurts my jaw just looking at it
