From the Sotomayor dissent, which is joined by both Kagan and Jackson: Today's ruling "reshapes the institution of the Presidency" and "makes a mockery of the principle . . . that no man is above the law." The decision "gives former President Trump all the immunity he asked for and more. Because our Constitution does not shield a former president from answering for criminal and treasonous acts, I dissent."

Sotomayor does not use "respectfully" with "dissent" here or at the end of her dissent, which concludes: "With fear for our democracy, I dissent."

Ok Biden, time to send in the assassin to kill Trump since the President is immune.

[–] [email protected] 70 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Don't forget the corrupt SCOTUS justices!

[–] [email protected] 18 points 10 months ago (3 children)

See, nobody needs to pack the court

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 months ago

Now we can unpack it

That's very important. The court has given itself the power to decide which acts are official, so step one is assassinating anyone who would say it's not. You probably don't need to do all of them, just a few, then the others will get the idea.

(Note I am not calling for actual assassinations, just pointing out that the court is both the decider and vulnerable to the edict enshrining a lawless president.)

If it's in his official capacity it's ok. But if Biden was that type of guy they never would have allowed him to serve as POTUS in the first place. America is getting the rat fucking of a lifetime.

Oh look, the illegitimate, anti-democracy terrorist organization that is SCOTUS is just making things up out of whole cloth to protect one of their own.

If Congress won’t put them in their place, it’s time for the People to do it.

Republicans are just waiting for lefties to revolt. A. it gives them an excuse to call us dangerous and use it to imprison or execute us without trials. B. they think they will win whatever war they have planned so they can point to the good men pushed too far and call them radical antifa terrorists in the history books. C. they think that just because they have guns they are safe. They forget that those guns were designed by engineers, many of whom are likely very left leaning if we follow stereotypes. Hell, most all of the things modern conservatives love today were invented by leftists. Hell, Jesus is about as far to the left as you can be. What that also means is we have the knowhow and means to fuck shit up in ways they can't even imagine. The left built the nuclear bomb, y'all can't even build a functional wall.

So, now there is room for the president to be a dictator if they want to. Nothing to stop them. Trump has been poison for our country since 2016.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 10 months ago (2 children)

If he wins, he will never leave

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

Not peacefully, anyway.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

He's due to die of natural causes any day now, so we've got that going for us.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Ok, so if presidents are shielded, I think Biden should fire the scotus, reinstate a liberal one, then have them rescind the ruling.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

Well, Congressional Impeachment of the justices are responsible for a traditional firing, but if it's an official action then Biden can order to have them kidnapped, beaten, or even killed.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 10 months ago

traitors to American democracy, which is on its deathbed. Just put us out of our collective misery already goddamn

[–] [email protected] 20 points 10 months ago

“Official” insurrection

[–] [email protected] 18 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I think something interesting about this, besides how bullshit the immunity claim is, is that trump doesn't have immunity for private actions. So in New York, he wouldn't be immune and will still face repercussions. Meanwhile, kicking the decision on what constitutes an official act back to the lower courts is a bullshit delay tactic. It's still a bad decision all around that definitely puts presidents above the law. But there's still more to it than that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Kicking it to the lower courts is a boiling the frog tactic. They'll give him immunity once the appeal gets back to them, but they want to spread out their shocks. Just like they leaked the Roe ruling so there wouldn't be as singular a rallying event.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Well we can hope for better news on July 11th then.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 10 months ago

Get ready for the 2nd civil war guys. I know I'm with the union.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 10 months ago (2 children)

9 people decide to allow presidents to act as dictators

[–] [email protected] 45 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

All 9 were part of the decision making. For me it is amazing that so important decisions are left to so few

[–] [email protected] 41 points 10 months ago (6 children)

Yeah you need to learn how the SCOTUS works and stop this bizarre threadshitting you’re doing in all these immunity decision threads.

Oh - you’re not American? Ah, well. More reason to know what you’re talking about then before you repeat it ad nauseam, isn’t it?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

so how does this scotus work? Providing some facts backed with searchable terms or a link to legal discussions can help more of us understand.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 months ago (7 children)

"Oh so please create a lesson plan for me with links and references so I can learn!"

You sound like a jackass.

This is an astroturfing campaign. Tons of bots saying this exact line

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

The shitty evolution of both sides by blaming the losing side for participating in the system.

Genuinely didn't expect this. I knew SCOTUS was delivering L after L lately, but I didn't expect them to go this far. History will not look back on this SCOTUS kindly.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 10 months ago (2 children)

They are banking on being the victors.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

They are banking on having fat bank accounts

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

No, they are acting like they are and it’s no surprise. Even if democrats win the presidency there will be no consequences to the republicans. None. trump organized an insurrection for fucks sake and he’s running for president now. There is no accountability to them.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 10 months ago

Time to start diggin’ some judge holes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Time to unpack the court with ST6, I guess. After all, now we know it’s legal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Exhibit A as to why the President shouldn’t be involved in picking judges. America’s political system is resplendent with opportunities to profit from the position.

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what it can do for me…”
