Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

(no, not that Shapiro, the other Shapiro)

[–] [email protected] 30 points 9 months ago (1 children)

This alone is a good enough reason to not pick him.

I've had nightmares containing the phrase "Vice President Shapiro" and I'd like to avoid having that image in my head for even just the split-second it takes me to disambiguate the two.

Also the other guy's been to space, so.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Maybe it might override the name in people's minds, thereby stealing attention away from that other guy.

Kelly just seems like a no-brainer. Astronaut, Navy pilot and Captain, Arizona Senator that took McCain's seat, looks like a generically bland old white guy at a glance. Even the Republicans can't complain about him too much 🤷‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 27 points 9 months ago

All of that doesn't matter with Republicans. They went in full force with Pete Buttigieg, questioned his military record and even created fake sexual assault allegations.

He’s fairly moderate too, so he’d help a little there, given his record. That aside, I’d have to take a look, but he has voted more progressively of late. I really hope he’s picked as VP.

And his wife survived and recovered from an assassination attempt in which she was actually shot in the head and had to re-learn a bunch of everyday tasks as a result.

i like buttigieg because he goes into fox and calmly destroys the talking points. shapiro is nice but we need him in pa; same with beshear.

tim waltz would also shore up the midwest/blue wall

I'm not sure if hes the best choice, I just want to see them trying to come up with insults for an astronaut.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 9 months ago

"Complicit in faking the moon landing/covering up the Flat Earth™" are the obvious ones. "Space cadet" always a classic. These, being the low-hanging fruit, I think will be the ones we'll see the most going forward, but I'd still like to throw my hat in the ring:

"An astronaut? You mean those guys that get off on flying their little rockets out of the atmosphere so they can breathe bottled air for a week? Like some sort of oxygen cuck?"

(obviously this implies a repubican pundit using the word "atmosphere" in a complete sentence, so I think we're safe)

I assume they didn't include my man Tim Walz because he would have embarrassed the competition.

Please pick Buttigieg. There’s rumors that he is going to be running for governor in Michigan and there is no chance I’m voting someone who just moved here to be my governor. Yes, his husband counts as a Michigander and I would vote for his husband - just not him. I don’t want to have to vote for someone who’s not really a Michigander and someone who’s going to ruin the State

[–] [email protected] 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

How much do you trust the rumors that the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is going to run for governor of Michigan, and why?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

Honestly, I’d say the chances are pretty high. He’s clearly not done with politics. He’s been a damn fine Secretary of Transportation. Harris is now the presumptive nominee and Buttigieg, based on his 2020 decisions, is unlikely to challenge. Whitmer is term limited as well.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Please no. I really wish he'd just leave politics entirely.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why do you wish he would leave?

Some view him as an neoliberal and not in favour of progressive policy. He worked as an analyst for a company while they were contracted by a Canadian grocery store that was fixing bread prices. Who knows what his involvement was but it's certainly a bad look.

I'm not informed enough to have a valid opinion but he does come off as someone who is very calculating and not sincere.
