I swim year-round and this time of the year is hell. It's summer and everyone decided to be more fit even though they know they will give up in 2 weeks, so the pool will be fucking packed with a bunch of people that don't know the rules. I'm almost tempted to take break

I got into outdoor sports to stay away from gyms. The only exception is I use indoor climbing gyms for training. You should try lake, river, or ocean swimming. I find swimming shore to shore really fun. It's like travelling through the wilderness but with swimming π
I'm not a fan of outdoor swimming and it would take 2hr+ for me to get somewhere I can swim outdoors, the pool is 2 subway stations away from my house, not an option unfortunately.
Because fuck people for trying to get in shape, right?
It's like when 'influencers' push a certain touristy destination. That place goes from quaint and peaceful, to literal hell on earth, people destroying stuff, not paying attention, over crowded, garbage everywhere...same thing happens at the gym..people who dedicate their time to ensuring they stay healthy get pushed out by people filming themselves, people standing around talking about dumb crap, using all the machines improperly and taking up all the parking space because a group of 4 can't carpool...fads ruin things
Also theres nothing worse than a crowded lane-swimming pool with casuals when you're trying to get a proper workout in. I never get mad about it, I understand why everyone is there and glad they're making an effort but theres rules that need to be followed.
Literally never said that but I've been swimming for 4 years at that place now. I have seen 0 people from the new year's wave actually stick around. They all think a new number on the date changes things but it doesn't, it never gets easier or harder, it's about you yourself changing and that has no specific date to happen.
I disagree. It does get easier to stick to something hard when you reach certain emotional milestones that drive your motivation. I'm not speaking specifically to New Year resolutions, but just in general.
You just agreed with me though. Read my comment again.
Oh, I guess I did. Yeah. Shame on me.
Waiting till the new year to change is an excuse
Change now, not later
Now is the new year though...
Oh, the irony of this comment. Think about it...
Not seeing the irony. Please explain.
OC literally talking about stopping doing the thing they do to get in shape, because of other people being dicks. You attempting to defend those people's actions, as though OCβthe one who is aware of etiquette so all can enjoyβis somehow the one who's against people getting in shape.
You have defended the baddies by using the good guy's point, entirely too focused on gaslighting with it to realise. This, ironically supporting behaviours that stop people from exercising.
Yeah. I switched to free weights last week in prep for not being able to access any of the machines at the fitness centre.
At least the running lanes at the track usually stay empty. I needed to work on my cardio more, anyway.
You are the opposite of me, my doctor told me to lift some weights lol, I only swim rn
Next few days? For the next whole year! Why do you think gyms make their memberships so difficult to leave?
Why do you think gyms make their memberships so difficult to leave
Seems like something that's mostly just an issue in the US. I just went online and cancelled my gym membership, it was like 3 clicks and I got a confirmation email of which day was the last day of the membership. Never heard from them since.
At least in Germany most gyms have 2 year contracts, if you want to be able to cancel your membership monthly you usually pay about twice as much
Gym owners bank on the fact that 90% of their customers never show up.
Right, because they sign up at the beginning of the year and show up for three days.
Ha ha, jokes on you. Iβve been paying a gym membership for years but never go!
Gotem!
Winning.
I am really looking forward to all the new ~~fresh meat~~ newcomers to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Being able to smash someone else's face into the mat for once
Hey! π«΅ That's the "spread your legs and welcome a guy into them" sport!
Yup
It's also the "choke that guy with your crotch till he passes out" sport
(Triangle chokes)
I tried it in college then just started getting railed in my dorm instead
although a couple of women joined us and I got matched with one? it was her first time too. she had a heat stroke attack or something and passed our during practice and we had to walk in the rain to find the med center
Well its when my yearly public local sports center subscription updates, I obviously pay.
I always buy my membership in January, there's always a discount and I know I'll use it anyway. It's always way too packed in January and February though, i hate it, I have to go either super early or late for it to be bearable.
Truest thing I've ever seen lmao
