Some background info from LinkedIn:

✅ What Paris Did Right:

  • Built 1,400 km of protected bike lanes and cycling infrastructure.
  • Established low-emission zones.
  • Converted riverbanks into pedestrian-friendly areas.
  • Embraced the “15-minute city” concept to bring amenities closer to residents.

❌ What Paris Left Behind:

  • Restricted through traffic in the city center.
  • Banned older diesel vehicles.
  • Introduced higher parking fees for SUVs.
  • Reclaimed 70,000 parking spaces from cars.

Edit: fixed formatting for mobile / app

Change the ❌ for a ♻️. It almost looks like a "what Paris did wrong " section

Maybe I'm not understanding things properly but, aren't the latter four points also good to fight against pollution? Or is it just car-brained people complaining that they cannot take their car wherever they want anymore?

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

I think it's more meant in a push/pull way. So what did they do to incentive people to take an alternative to a car and how did they punish people who do take a car.

What do you mean by left behind? Those 4 points have been implemented as far as I know

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

My interpretation is that the first list is new positive things they built to make it feasible and the second list are actions they took to reduce the things causing negative impacts.

You can ask them if you want. I'll post a screenshot next time to avoid confusion, sorry.

Will do, thanks!

All things that ANY city could do if it weren't for NIMBYs and a lack of political will to.

LinkedIn did this research? Can you post the source?

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, someone just posted a nice summary. I usually reverse image search posts on here to find sources and additional info.

This page shows the reports: https://www.paris.fr/pages/etat-des-lieux-de-la-qualite-de-l-air-a-paris-7101

If you want the LinkedIn post I can dig that up too, lmk

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago

Thanks, that's exactly what I was hoping for.

I heard they places 2 days old baguettes on the streets as speed bumps.

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

a little extreme isn't it ? my suspension would be ruined

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That's your own fault for not owning a Citroën!

spoiler

Between the 2CV, which was designed to transport a basket of eggs across a plowed field without breaking them, and the hydropneumatic suspension used in later cars, the French car company Citroën is pretty famous for its suspension designs.

That many parisians quit smoking??

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 46 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The amount of hate Hidalgo received because of her efforts to reduce cars in Paris is absolutely bonkers...

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 2 months ago

A lot of people want to drive in.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 months ago

Down with cars! Keep that toxic crap out of our cities!

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nice the air quality improved. I wish they would also improve people quality, there's only one place in France where there are Nice people.

[–] seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Paradoxically, Nice is a bad city

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I heard eastern France is nicer.

[–] seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

My favorite city in France is probably Strasbourg, the transportation system is just incredible

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Smaller cities tend to be much nicer; provided that they are well kept.

[–] pBaesse@bolha.one 11 points 2 months ago

@grue @fuckcars nice! What changed? Let me guess almost no cars because of some great law?? 😆😀

[–] quafeinum@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It’s shocking that a country like France would ban smoking! C’est incredible!

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

*incroyable

[–] yessikg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The change happened so fast too

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago

Remember how fast it was during the pandemic? Cities around the globe had clean air like hadn't been seen in decades.

Its amazing how fast nature recovers when humans disappear.
