Summary

Donald Trump signed an executive order rolling back transgender and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, reversing key measures introduced by Joe Biden.

The new order declares the federal government will recognize only two genders and bans agencies from promoting gender transitions.

Federal documents, prisons, and agencies must comply.

Trump also targeted environmental justice grants and diversity training programs.

Civil rights groups condemned the move, pledging legal challenges.

Don't worry. According to ~~Russians~~ ideological purists, this outcome is better for my trans son than if Kamala Harris had won.

Now if you'll pardon me, I have to get back to working on moving my family out of this shit-hole country.

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 months ago (8 children)

Personally, if it's my rights vs being a part of a genocide I'm ready to get my passport revoked.

It's not like I had money to flee the country, and my retirement plan was already to die in the water wars.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 41 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I'm sure your ideological purity is a great comfort to my son who has just been legally declared a woman.

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I got my name/gender markers updated a few years ago.

The Democrats lost the election due to a combination of their support of Israel (and corresponding economic impacts) and their terrible campaign/no primary. If you're looking for people to blame they're not on your left.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (8 children)

My son. He's a transman. Trump declared him legally a woman yesterday.

So you chose being part of the same genocide and additionally the future genocide of LGBT people in America. Are you fucking joking?

Now you're complicit with the upcoming genocide of trans people but go ahead and enjoy that warm fuzzy feeling you have from saving Palestine from Kamala Harris.

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

To speak out for me

This time around it's started with Palestinians, democrats acting helpless to stop the genocide (while actually arming it). It does not fill me with confidence that if LGBT people became a political liability that democrats wouldn't unite with the republicans on our extermination too.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Solidarity with the Palestinians or any marginalized group doesn't mean I have to allow bad things happen to everyone else.

We don't vote Democrat because they inspire us or we love them, we vote democrat as a form of overall harm reduction.

In virtue signaling your opposition to Israel's genocide, you've enabled American genocide of trans people, that's how you know you fucked up.

If it's your rights. Fuck me if mine gets caught up in it, since it's "for the greater good". Right tankie?

I'm trans, but I'd rather kill myself than vote for genocide.

[–] photonic_sorcerer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 2 months ago (11 children)

Thank you for making that decision for every trans person in the USA.

Well now you don't have to do it yourself 🙂

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

At least you didn't just stay home, you strategically held back your vote - instead focusing on how you would capitalize on their loss to seize control of the party in the resulting elections for control to effect the change which is so important to you.

...Oh

I guess you just... Gave up and surrendered... Just no strategy at all to accomplish any of your political goals...? Ceding all control to the anti-muslim party.... Interesting.

According to Russians ideological purists, this outcome is better for my trans son than if Kamala Harris had won.

Said nobody ever.

[–] ShellMonkey@lemmy.socdojo.com 46 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You must have slept through the year prior to the election or been offline. This place was swamped with people who, in the name of saying Palestine was THE issue shouted continuously about 'bLuE mAgA' and how people need to stay away from the democratic party, which when people do that you get this as the alternative.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

in the name of saying Palestine was THE issue

Conveniently ignoring that Trump is also worse for that whole situation.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

People were saying they weren't willing to vote for the Democrats because they supported genocide. Say what you want about that, but it has nothing to do with trans people; literally everyone was perfectly aware they'd be worse off with a Trump victory.

[–] ShellMonkey@lemmy.socdojo.com 38 points 2 months ago (5 children)

It has to do with trans people because you don't get to pick one candidate on this topic and another on that topic. By outright rejecting the democratic candidate these same people where willing to throw every minority and marginalized group in our own country under the bus for that one ideologically pure stance.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And it isn't even actually ideologically pure, since the Republicans are 1000% worse on Israel and Palestine.

Can’t afford rice and bread, .01% hold more wealth than the rest combined, but persecuting trans people and renaming the Gulf of Mexico will fix those problems…… how?

[–] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What problems? None of this is affecting a billionaire negatively.

[–] formergijoe@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Well he did sign an executive order "addressing the cost of living crisis," so rice and bread prices are all fixed now! If only Sleepy Joe thought to sign something! /s

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but what about the price of eggs?

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Went up to 10 dollars.

At least the people in Gaza are okay now.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

people in Gaza*

* - Israeli settlers who are no longer being sanctioned by the US.

MULTIPLE orders once you read past the language on merit based hiring.

I'm gagging on the phrase "Defending Women" in the context of anything done by this rapist and his misogynist forced-birther cronies. Especially as a cynical "justification" for denying/destroying the lives of nonbinary, trans and intersex people.

(Look at Melania's Defense Hat, she knows who women need protection from.)

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Congratulations on helping fascism win, you are equally culpable for everything that happens for the next 4 years as Biden was in Gaza. And I hope you lose just as much sleep over it.
