Here’s how you know he wasn’t “throwing his heart out”: No gesture of that level of verve and publicity has EVER, in the history of media or public speaking, been interpreted as a Nazi salute EXCEPT a Nazi fucking salute.

They know it is, this is standard gaslighting, and wherever they do this it should be pointed out together with a video showing it side by side. So far I did not get response from them after that.

Yep, same thing happened when Laura Ingraham got carried away and did a Hitler salute. Not sure if that time she got the ADL to bat for her tho.

I looked up that video to see what she looked like doing it, and that looked way more accidental than Musk's. I think she confused herself and did a mix between a stiff wave and pointing at the crowd, which she then started actually doing. That's my take.

Disclaimer, I don't even know who this Laura is, so this is strictly unbiased.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nah, she started doing it and then transitioned to a wave to keep plausible deniability.

Whatever you need to tell yourself. Question, did you also think it was a coincidence when cpac had the Odal rune stage a few years later?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Just using the same argumentative style that you are. I'm giving you details into how I believe it wasn't on purpose. You just say "nah, she did it", so I say "nah, she didn't". 🤷‍♂️

I don't know nothing bout no cpac or what Odal rune stage is. Don't know what the fuck that is.

Have a good day, son.

Edit: never mind, you're someone else who I wasn't taking to in the first place. 👍

Still, have a good day.

Not even the same person lol.

Odal rune stage

Whether or not you think she did a Nazi salute, it's close enough that it doesn't matter. Especially with a decade of other COMPLETELY COINCIDENTAL Nazi references and allusions by the Republican party. Shit, people were calling out the Nazi references in Trump's campaignimg in 2015 even through to 2024.

The republican party gets no benefit of the doubt with Nazi accusations. Because they're full of Nazis and fascists.

Yep, see my edit. 👍

Fair enough. 👍 At this point I'm just exhausted by the fact that America voted for this shit and so it's what they and the rest of the world is dealt now for the coming 4 years. Just gotta bite this brown banana and like it. What else can we do. Worse shit is to come, I'm sure. This is the first week and it's already going to shit.

I'm just glad I live relatively far away.

That doesn't look like a Nazi salute to me looks up the video of that OH FUCK!

[–] [email protected] 50 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

the political compass is bullshit and the assigned wojacks are stupid. but yeah that's a nazi doing a nazi salute.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

It's due to it being ill-defined, but we shouldn't just throw it away. The left to right axis is how much capital is used as a commodity and the vertical axis is how much common goods are used as capital.

Copy left for instance views works as a public good not for use in capital gain whereas permissive licenses are for the public good, but are able to be reowned.

Authoritarianism is the same as enshittification as everything is viewed as capital to be exploited either in the ownership of said capital for private use or in a bureaucratic system that tightly controls it. People will be fighting left v right saying the other is authoritarian when we really need more anarchism/libertarian systems.

Also Elon is totally throwing up a sig heil.

“It’s a Roman salute!”

“Where do you think the Nazis got it idiot?”

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

The Nazis got it from the fascists who got it from a screenplay from D'Annunzio that Mussolini liked. D'Annunzio pulled it out of his ass, Romans didn't salute like that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

apparently the stage production of Ben-Hur had it in 1899 and "Historians have instead determined that the gesture originated from Jacques-Louis David's 1784 painting Oath of the Horatii, which displayed a raised arm salutatory gesture in an ancient Roman setting." - Wikipedia

but your point stands Romans didn't do that shit.

wrong, the Libertarian would gladly sell him a do a hitler salute pass(TM)

I'm a little confused with the auth/right in this one

[–] [email protected] 29 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The extreme auth right, AKA the auth right of the US, are literal fascists and as such "secretly" approve. I'm personally picturing this as auth right talking to a like minded peer rather than to the general public, in which case it fits.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I think that's right. It's also just the way they're depicted with the same head base as the others. Typically memes with these use the head base to denote respectability, like in the libertarian right, to degrade them. But they're also a Nazi still? So I assume they're not sympathetic to them. Feels like the meme equivalent of a typo I guess

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Yeah, I agree, now that you mention it. I'm thinking that the helmet and rather nondescript uniform are being asked to do significantly more heavy lifting than they're rated for.

Still a good use of the format overall IMO, though 🤷

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I suppose if they used one of the "Total Idiot" heads for authright, they might be perceived an implication that authright is incorrect in this case. Whereas authright is actually correct for once, albeit for horrific reasons.

But I agree that it presents unnecessary ambiguity as it is. There was probably a better way, but PCMs are not known for their effort.

I think this is more their reaction to it The other three are calm and pointing out Nazi space karen did the Nazi salute, and the libertarians are freaking out trying to deny it.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

His Nazi heart

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

But the very next day, I gave it away.
