5head Sigma Streamer

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Couldnt you replace chat with a lot of other nouns?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Chat, I don't feel this guy gets it.

(❤️)

(By which I mean, of course you could, same as you could replace any pronoun with one or several nouns, that being the entire deal with pro-nouns. We could but pronouns save us from having to do that.)

Language is evolving. Especially around pronouns. Might be better to ask what folks favorite new pronouns are.

I like ki. It's the singular of kin.

I wanted a list of all pronouns and thought the best way to get it was to make a c/asklemmy post asking people of all pronouns they knew, regardless of person, number, rarity or language

Also ki sounds cool and is now my favorite pronoun

There's no list.

It's evolving and folks can make up new ones that suit them whenever they like.

Hexbear has a fairly large list users can choose from. As the admins will add new pronouns for one person if requested.

And yeah, ki is badass. Not human centric and reminds us of our larger family of all life on this rock.

First person:

I, we, yours truly, this one, your humble servant

Second person:

You, thou, ya'll, all y'all, you lot, youse guys

Third person:

She, he, it, that, this, xe, zhe, those, they

I'm not even going to go into object or possessive pronouns, or ones I know in non-English languages.

What about he, she, it, I, we, you?

I have no idea what's going on ever any more, but "who" is fun.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

lol I can't even begin. I regularly use 4 languages, even defining what a pronoun is barely possible. Native speakers argue about the correct usage for some of those

他 (pronounced tā)

One Pronoun to Rule Them All!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What does Ta translate to?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

他 is for both "He" and "She"

Chinese language is very egalitarian, isn't it? 😉

(just don't look at the conservative culture tho... 🤫)

Reminds me of the situation with toki pona. The OG minimalist vocabulary, it was the users who had to incorporate a Western pronoun system for when they needed to clarify things. Before that, everyone was referred to in a non-binary way.

I couldn't list all the ones I know, only the ones I have come across. I remember once someone tried making the whole Bee Movie script their pronoun. Another time they were just dolphin sounds. I was like "guys, I have every intention to uphold your validity, but I need to throw a few rules into the equation". Just basic courtesy stuff.

All the ones I recall coming across that I can replicate:

First person:

I, we, me, myself, drag, shadow the hedgehog, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Intel Core i5-10400F CPU 16.0 GB RAM

Second person:

You, your, yourself, drag, shadow the hedgehog, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Intel Core i5-10400F CPU 16.0 GB RAM

Third person:

She, he, it, that, this, xe, zhe, those, they, drag, shadow the hedgehog, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Intel Core i5-10400F CPU 16.0 GB RAM

Short.

All the pronouns I know are short. In all languages.

That depends. See mosquito pronouns:
