I'm not personally interested because of the lack of headphone jack, but I have always thought their marketing was going to have an up hill battle because of the name and I saw this quote in the article "Nothing is made better by its community" and it made me laugh.
The storage options are disappointing. How hard can it be to make a 512gb if not a higher storage model. Maybe, if there was a way to expand the limited fixed internal storage of a smart phone..
It's kinda weird that there isn't a 512gb tier. Since it's kinda common in that price range.
They look decent although 3 years is not a lot. 4 would be fine.
Yeah, there are 6 years of security updates, so it's less of an issue imo.
I think they can also be easily unlocked. Right?
yeah, they are still one of few companies that make it possible and easy. source: https://github.com/melontini/bootloader-unlock-wall-of-shame
I’m still learning …what does unlock mean, in this context?
Looks like this is a list of manufacturers that allow bootloader unlocking. If you want to install a custom ROM, you first need to unlock the bootloader. Note that carrier branded devices of these brands may still have a locked bootloader. The example I'm most familiar with is the Verizon version of Pixels.. I always by the carrier unlocked version of the Pixel to ensure an unlocked bootloader.
Maybe? I don't follow nothing that much.
Its a lot more than most Android OEMs outside of Google and Samsung. And for a device that (as far as I can tell) doesn't have a lot of other compromises? It's not too terrible.
Reckon it would support Linux?
The only Android OEM that ik gives Linux Kernal software is Sony.
To make sure Essential Space is always a click away, Nothing created the Essential Key.
The only thing I love more than cloud-backed note-taking crapware is when it has a dedicated hardware key. I hope they haven't gone full Bixby and it can be remapped without jumping through hoops.
I'm pretty sure it's on device?
I like your optimism, but: "A double-click opens the Essential Space. This is where all the little snippets you record during the day end up, and the AI uses them to create reminders, recommendations and the like. Essential requires an internet connection. According to Nothing, the data remains within the EU on a server in Paris." Here.
