Children are messy, noisy, annoying and, quite frankly, ugly. I side with the Carthaginians.

You think too much like a Carthaginian, a Roman would think PRACTICALLY. Like, "How much can I sell this child for"
Explanation: One of the things that the Romans accused their worst enemies, the Carthaginians, of, was child sacrifice. Notably, this was not a common accusation leveled by the Romans, unlike being not manly enough (or conversely, eating too much meat like a b*rbarian).
However, whether that accusation of child sacrifice was true is a whole 'nother ball of wax, and you can find support in modern academia for both sides of the issue.
The Romans definitely played up this situation to garner more sympathy for the Poenic wars, but the Carthaginians did indeed use ritual child sacrifice as an element of their belief systems: https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2014-01-23-ancient-carthaginians-really-did-sacrifice-their-children
