News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

At least with Boost (my favorite reddit & Lemmy app).

This lets you circumvent ads/recommendations and other bs, too.

Oh boy I've always wanted to still use a site full of bots that doesn't respect its users and censors the shit out of everything!

While you didn’t post the rule-breaking content, not buying a Tesla is also considered a violation.

But then you would be using reddit.... gross.

Reminder: nobody gives a shit about reddit

This is a reddit community...

[–] Dju@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Their username also checks out

This is a community about reddit discussion/news. Most posts are about how they censor, monetize and essentially wage war with their communities #luigi. I don't need "reminders" to go back.

They circumvent reddit ads by paying reddit directly for the API (using their own ads). It still funds reddit.

[–] Ricaz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

No, they don't.. I don't know why everyone seems to think that.

It's okay you'll never get it. Go back to feeding money to spez now

You seem nice

That moment when a person with "reddit" in their username claims nobody gives a shit about reddit

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Talk about the post instead of attacking people directly. I can have whatever in my name and say "nobody cares you can still access reddit", it doesn't matter how you interpret my username. Reddit was once something else.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't care about the post, nor was I attacking anyone. I'm delighted by the irony of a user named RedditWanderer claiming that nobody cares about reddit on the /c/reddit community. That's all. Isn't that enough?

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The c/reddit community is not for people who love reddit. Having reddit in your name doesn't mean you like or support reddit. There's no irony, youre just misunderstanding my username, the sub and just about everything else. Stop trying to make fun of people's usernames.

What I should have said was "reminder: nobody give a shit about going back to reddit" for the slow one's in the back looking to take things personally.

My Boost has been throwing 403 Blocked for like a week now... My Reddit usage has significantly dropped.

Ahhh, I missed the part where I have to patch a clean app and not my pre-patched version. Idk if I'll go back to it though - it's driven me to use Lemmy more, and it looks like a lot of communities are making their way over here - many more since the last time I looked.

[–] DioEgizio@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

infinity patched with revanced still works great too

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

There was also a way to build Infinity yourself using your own developer key from Reddit, not sure if that's still an option though. But that dev was very quick with a work around and Infinity users are barely affected by the API thing.

[–] revanite@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

still works, this is what I use. I do like that the app is still being updated too, I used boost and sync previously but they got more annoying to use for me over time with errors slowly popping up

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You don't even need to patch the Android app called Red Reader. It works by default. Not super pleasing to look at, but it has always done the job. I think they managed to squeak by the API shutdown thing because they are headed toward blind users, but sighted users can use it too.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah Red Reader got a special exemption as an accessibility oriented app. I use it for whenever I need to check Reddit for something (typically football/soccer news). It's ugly as sin which is good because it makes me less inclined to stick around as long.

[–] Ricaz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, reddit started blacklisting specific user-agents. Many of the other apps worked fine until Monday for me.

[–] Generica@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

I deleted my Reddit account after a decade a couple of months ago but I used Boost the whole time I was on the site, even after they supposedly put the kibosh on third party apps. The only issue was that if I wanted to post anything that had an attachment I had to use the official Reddit app or website.

[–] nuko147@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

What you mean ? I use RedReader for 1 year now from F-Droid without any problems. But i started opting out due to USA shit. Thank god, they started making crazy shit over there now (Reddit company), people blocked, reported for up-voting, and other stuff.

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I've been using patched rif is fun for months now and it works well. It's useful for keeping in touch with some of the niche communities that are more active on Reddit than Lemmy.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 1 points 3 weeks ago

My patched RIF stopped working just about a week or two ago. I keep getting the "blocked by security" message even after clearing all my data and logging back in again.
