Don't worry, the ones that voted for him were one of the good ones.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 18 points 1 day ago

Remember when his supporters thought we were irrational for thinking he'd go after people who are in the country legally? Next step, he'll take citizenship away from naturalized citizens, then children of immigrants, then Puerto Ricans and anyone who isn't white

[–] Sabin10@lemmy.world 104 points 2 days ago (2 children)

But Cubans love to vote republican to stop the communists.

This is a real argument. They saw bad things happen under communism. This is a different flock, but the same bird.

I feel bad for the community.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (2 children)

True, but these people weren't permanent residents so they didn't vote for this shit.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

They definitely aren't permanent residents now, that is for sure.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

No, but I expect many will be family

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago

Wow that's alot of terrorists. \s

Seriously tho words have no meaning to fascists.

[–] The_Caretaker@lemm.ee 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I lived in Florida for a while. Nearly all of the Cubans there were racist redhats and loved Trump. They fucked around and now they get to find out.

Man this hits hard. They really are pulling up the ladder behind them.

This transactional relationship with minority groups is precisely why Democratic popularity among minority groups is slipping. You pretend to stand for racial justice as a principle. Then, the moment a racial group no longer supports your movement, you abandon your principles of racial justice. You join with the fascists and openly celebrate that group's persecution. Yet you still ask other minority groups to vote for you, as you stand for racial justice, LGBT rights, etc. Yet how can people not see what is in front of their very eyes - the moment support for their group becomes politically inconvenient, that group will be thrown away like an old tissue.

The same Democrats who said that people needed to ignore Palestine in order to protect LGBT people are now those throwing the trans community under the bus.

[–] Brodysseus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 days ago

I agree with you that its an issue, but surely you see that its a part of human nature to experience some kind of validation when a person / group learns a lesson they could have not learned the hard way by listening or reasoning. The whole leopards eating face thing.

I dont think its a beautiful part of human psychology but I think its hard to overcome especially when emotions are already high.

I personally find it sad, but I believe just like in 2016 there's a bunch of aggressive social media manipulation going on and I see it as people being scammed into believing something in contradiction to their own self interest.. And much like an elderly person scammed into handing over money I find it really sad.

Russians citizens living in the USA are now called "citizens++".

Except for Navalny supporters, they get Gulag+

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I was just about to say. Russians are perfectly fine. No problem.

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

That's double plus good

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

The one group we probably should toss out.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Don't you mean comrade++

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Hopefully some federal judge will stop this nonsense.

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 46 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Does this asshat realize that the only non-immigrants in this country are the Native Americans? I mean even after 9/11 there weren't mass deportations of people of Middle Eastern descent. Racism and prejudice, yes, but this is ridiculous all because of Fentanyl?

I have a better and more empathetic idea -- meet people where they are and help them find a path that works for them to get out of the addiction spiral. This is just going to lead to an increase in drug prices, which will lead to even more crime.

[–] JimmyMcGill@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Fentanyl is not the reason. It’s just the excuse

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 45 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Do you actually think Trump or anybody in his circle has empathy? They have all shown that it's a foreign concept to them.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 days ago

“The fundamental weakness is empathy,” Elon Musk recently told radio podcast host Joe Rogan. “There is a bug, which is the empathy response.”

Why Elon Musk is wrong about empathy

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago

It goes farther than that, it's a Republican issue and has been for decades. Trump is just saying the quiet parts out loud.

And traumatizing the fuck out of me because I grew up with a narcissistic parent and was subject to her wildly changing decisions, gaslighting, and her always saying the quite part out loud as if they are incapable of thinking without speaking.

[–] rocket_dragon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 days ago

Does this asshat realize that the only non-immigrants in this country are the Native Americans?

Yes, they are fully aware that when they talk about "immigrants", they aren't actually talking about immigrants, they are talking about people who aren't white.

The actual goal of the "I don't like these illegals" people is to make the US a white ethno-state.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Does this asshat realize that the only non-immigrants in this country are the Native Americans?

Watch out. He'll try to deport all the Native Americans to Northeast Siberia. Their ancestors were just very, very early illegal immigrants.

[–] River_Tahm@lemmy.today 17 points 2 days ago

They told a Native American to go back where he came from so, no, they do not understand.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago

They're not exactly trying to implement a sensible and logical immigration policy though.

[–] RamblingPanda 8 points 2 days ago

If you're not pre Clovis, get out!

Wowwwwwwww

So like… Miami’s taking a hit there

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Has he run out of immigrants entering illegally already? He’s so efficient!

[–] dryfter@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Who the hell would want to come to this country with all this shit going on?

[–] xnx@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

People in countries the US destroyed/destabilized. Like always

[–] Zentron@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why go to US when anywhere else is better ?

They got old information pre-2024 and they haven’t received info about the new update.

[–] xnx@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Decades of propaganda advertising it as the greatest country in the world makes people want to move there. Also you can get paid in USD and send money back home

[–] Zentron@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Ehh , id preffer Germany over US any day of the week

They got old information pre-2024 and they haven't received info about the new update.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Not much choice between two genocidal candidates. And genocide joe attacked migrants during his whole term continuing and expanding the policies of Trump. But go ahead acting self-righteous.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

This is what you preferred to abandoning netanyahu.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago

The outgroup must grow to feed the machine

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump, a Republican, took steps to...

Oh thank you Guardian for clearing that up. Absolutely no one knew that 🙄

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You vastly underestimate the ignorance of the American people.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I thought The Guardian was an English publication?

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It is but it’s commonly read in the US. But maybe this applies to the English too. I have less direct experience there.

But I guess it is a bit more reasonable to remind foreign readers of Trump’s party affiliation since presumably the English spend at least a little less time thinking about US politics than we do.

That's an army sized number of people who will be sent home to go through hell.

Oh well, it's what the Latin community wanted and Cuban Americans are saying that they have no regrets so let them have it.
