Welcome to lemmy :3

A few tips:

  1. If you're coming from Reddit know karma here isn't a thing and nobody really cares how many likes you get
  2. If you want a great mobile client I reccomend Thunder
  3. You will see a lot of Linux users and Queer people (with overlap), also expect to see a lot of :3
  4. Unless you set up filters in the settings except to see a lot of political content
  5. If you want some memes I reccomend [email protected] and [email protected]
  6. If you just want to post cat pictures feel free :3

What does NSFW stand for? Nudes Sex Fun Wanking? Is switching on cause explicit content to show up or block it?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not Safe For Work, mostly nudity, sometimes violence.

I don't know where you are doing the switching on or off part.

I do this over my app (Boost), where I have to turn it on (show NSFW content) to see it.

NSFW also includes spoilers for now, as Lemmy devs don't care about spoilers. (They will come with post tags sometime in the future.) (This is similar to mastodon but they named it "content warning")

I downloaded the Lemmy Voyager app for iOS and there is a toggle switch for this item.

The term “not safe for work” reminds me of an episode of “I think you should leave” on Netflix

Just like Reddit, depending on the instance you join Lemmy allows for pornographic & gore content to be posted.

I would suggest logging into your instance, in this case for you it’s https://sh.itjust.works/, and navigate to your profile to turn NSFW content off.

Great, thanks for the help

I was using Instagram and threads mostly but was wanting to stop using Meta based apps. Someone posted about the fediverse so I started using mastodon and Pixelfed.

This is supposed to be a Reddit replacement is what some people said but I didn’t really use that before

How do you become an official shitizen?

[–] [email protected] 42 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Alright I'm gonna need you to buy an older ThinkPad and then install Arch Linux on it. Then I need you to set some anime background, preferably uncomfortable close to hentai if possible. Then I'm going to need you to get some thigh high socks and put those on. Put your legs up on the desk and take a picture. Make sure something like neofetch is running, so people know you use Arch BTW.

Once you have done that, head on over to /c/[email protected] and make a post.

If you could do that, that would be great

Welcome! We're all pretty friendly around these parts, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

Welcome in from the cold. We have hot cocoa and blankets.

What did you use before and how did you find Lemmy?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I was about to go have a nap, as it's waaaay too early for me on a Saturday, but I just wanted to wish you welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

PS: The community you're posting this on may not be the correct place for this, as it's more oriented towards things regarding the sh.itjust.works instance, but I don't think it matters too much.

Ya I wasn’t sure which one to pick, this server said it was solar powered I think so I thought that was cool. It popped up with a list of a few to pick from. I’m on Vancouver Island and am exploring the Fediverse apps. I’m enjoying Pixelfed so far.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

solar powered

Hydroelectric, I believe.

Welcome!

Feel free to post on [email protected] if you have any questions, else there are lots of guides around for you to use. There are a few pinned to the sidebar of your instance, and there's also this post from over on lemmy.ca: https://sh.itjust.works/post/32846425

Cool thanks, I’ll check it out. I can learn new things

Welcome to Lemmy, here are a few pointers to help you settle in

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is subscribing how you “follow” a certain community or person. I’ve been bouncing around to multiple apps so just checking how things work.

Thanks for the warm welcome

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, that's it indeed!

Happy to help!
