Former senior Canadian intelligence officials say Canada needs to be on the lookout for campaigns aimed at destabilizing the country amid U.S. President Donald Trump's escalating 51st state threats.

And they told CBC News that the most potent weapon wielded by the Trump administration to advance the cause of annexation would likely not be the intelligence agencies directed by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.#

Except it’s accidentally stabilizing it. Source am a progressive Canadian living in a (normally) regressive Province. Not like Alberta regressive but still surrounded by Oligarchs.

Anti-trump American here, I work in international freight with my primary focus on the U.S. & Canadian border. I have a bunch of contacts in Canada who I speak with regularly, and ever since shitler was sworn in again they all report the country unifying. Hell one contact said he's seen people from other provinces defending Quebec. Shitler has unified the other provinces with Quebec.... that's the defcon level we're at here people....lol.

Makes me want to leave this shit hole for Canada even more...

When will they start taking refugees?

European here, very curious about getting a regressive-progressive map of Canada, if you can spare the time.

Provide a single example of how it’s destabilizing Canada.

Because it’s not. If anything it’s solidifying their national pride and identity.

They have been covertly trying to destabilize Canada for years (The "Fuck Trudeau" movement had a lot of foreign support) but the recent change to overt methods has united the country and most likely saved us from a conservative fascist bootlicker as the next Prime Minister

I honestly can't wait to see next week's polls. Watching PP sink to the bottom of the barrel brings such joy.

Imagine someone in Canada wearing a MAGA hat in 2016. Now, people like Gretsky are doing it.

It starts small like that. Then it grows. Trust me, I've been watching in horror from the inside. I have no idea how to change or stop it.

I'm working on leaving.

This is a very true comment. I think the world is dead soon. No one wants to take the warnings from people that have the experience of it.

People should be planning for war.

Collapse is imminent. We're well underway.

Lol the CIA has clandestine operations in practically every country on Earth, and even in China where they failed to set up shop properly and get caught every now and then.

The funny thing is Trump is seemingly throwing away all that covert influence and power for public clowning, which is why people think the opposite might happen if the US gives up its major leverage.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago

I don't get why people think "fucked America" started with trump. It's like it's written into the code.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 5 days ago (1 children)

These fuckers fully believe they're going to go unpunished. They see Netanyahu as proof. Putin continues largely unfettered. Why should the trashy US government fear anything?

Trump and Musk are dismantling what remained of the USA's credibility and goodwill. All of this is to allow them the freedom to run their agenda rampantly.

Nothing's happening. They will win. Do you see anyone actually doing anything? These protests don't really do anything. The government people aren't doing anything. The citizens aren't doing anything. Canadians have done far more than Americans. America has no heart.

People opposing trump have acted like that the whole time.... They just talk, or hold signs, they don't don't actually do anything, they aren't even playing the same game.

americas bringing a floppy slice of American cheese to a gun fight and wondering why they are getting turned into Swiss cheese.

20 years ago I wrote an email to my dad saying that this was coming. "If I were to start a fascist government, I would let everyone say anything they wanted online and nothing would be heard above the noise." There was more to it, but he said I was overreacting.

After Trump was reelected, we were talking on the phone. He said, "well, you were right. What now?" I had no answers, but was surprised he remembered that.

There's a right way to destabilize a country. Provide accurate and bias-free reporting like Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Asia. This gives people access to independent journalism. Not what Trump is doing.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

That only destabilizes countries that don’t already enshrine that sort of reporting.

Trump is destabilizing Canada by doing the opposite.

Fuck Trump. He can spend eternity encased in concrete in a barrel at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

bias-free reporting

Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Asia

Pick one. VoA only reports stories that align with American interests. Given that RFE/RL/RFA are American-backed, I would assume the same for them, but I haven't studied it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

Sure, they are reporting stories that align with American interests, but it is through accurate reporting, not disinformation.

For example, VoA extensively covered what was going on with the Uyghur population in China.

Probably obscure if you're under 50.
