  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

Summary

DOGE attempted to fire ICU doctors at the NIH Clinical Center, risking patient safety and prompting backlash from scientists and protesters.

The cuts would have eliminated critical "code blue" cardiac arrest teams, potentially forcing patient airlifts. Protests led DOGE to reverse course and reinstate fired medical staff, lab technicians, and blood bank workers.

However, many senior scientists face unpaid leave as contracts expire, and research is hindered by supply shortages.

Since Elon Musk took control, over 62,000 federal workers have been laid off.

So, of an estimated 348 million Americans, roughly 3 million, less than 1%, please note, work for the US federal government directly (the Armed Forces are a separate matter and a separate budget). Of those, DOGE has managed to lay off slightly over 2%, while spending 14.4 million dollars on its own operations in just the period of time between January 30 and February 8: after that, no figures have been released.

Why do I keep hearing my Mom's voice muttering Penny wise, pound foolish?

It's not even that.

It's all just another grift. They siphon off money through the new "department" under the guise of saving more money than they're "spending" (pocketing). At best they'll have fucked off to El Salvador with their lucre before any consequences catch up to them.

Holy shit imagine not having a “code blue” team at a hospital, that’s actually insane and would be completely unacceptable. Those patients would very likely not be able to make the transfer.

That seems to be the idea.

We need to have the names of every doge psycho working under musk. Why are they allowed to be private/anonymous? Why isn't anybody talking about it?

I doubt it's "every" DOGE employee, but someone posted a list of names and email addresses a few days ago. It's public information but reddit still removed it.

Lots of people are talking about it.
