This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

If those Trump supporters could read, they'd be pretty upset.

Anybody that doesn't already realize this absolutely will not give a shit what this says anyways lol.

Canada is working on scratch and sniff ads for them

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I wonder if Canadians can read and learn that their own tariffs are causing the same problems for them.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Of course. It's how a tariff war works.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Except Canadian tariffs have, so far, been targeted so as to cause maximum harm to red states and minimum harm to Canadians. Unlike Trump’s sloppy across-the-board approach.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yes, that and also Trump seems to count on his supporters not understanding who will end up paying for those tariffs by misleading them into believing other countries will pay for those tariffs for them.

Meanwhile Canadian elected officials have been very upfront about the rough times ahead. But unlike Americans, Canadians are motivated, united and have a strong will to weather the storm.

The way Trump does it also hurts his own country's economy even more because he has made it clear that no country is safe from unpredictable tariffs. Investors hate unpredictability. They'll take their money elsewhere. And on top of that he's doing it with multiple countries at the same time, which is an even dumber thing to do because the effects of all the countries retaliatory tariffs will be cumulative.

Let's see how committed they are to "Free Speech". Bets on how long until Florida or D.C. bans these ads? (They'll call it "foreign interference").

[–] [email protected] 51 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They'll call it "foreign interference"

Honestly it kind of is. Though in this case I'm all for it.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 months ago

The precedent has been set. We are playing their game and these are their rules.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The only foreign interference they can accept is israel's

And south african expats who south africa doesn't even want to associate with right now.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The First Amendment is gone.

Trump is openly retaliating against people who criticized him. Our constitution isn’t worth the crumbling paper it’s written on any more.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It never was, ignoring how it enshrined slavery, the system it built relied on people acting in good faith. The idea that elected officials would always work to preserve democracy.

Now it's evident that is not an appropriate system for checks and balances.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

It has good parts and had a lot of bad parts. It was written centuries ago, so let’s take that framing into consideration. It was a worthwhile endeavor to pursue the good parts while amending the bad, directly or via modern courts. Unfortunately it’s been a backsliding battle against conservatives who selectively interpret it as “originalists”, like they selectively interpret their bible to enhance their power and pocketbook and ignore the parts that are inconvenient or get between them and money, and obstinately refuse change or would actively change it for the worse.

The most ironic part is that the countries that the US fought with in WW2 that had some absolutely awful leadership and governance were outfitted with relatively excellent frameworks to govern with postwar, Germany and Japan, while the US has been crippled with resting on its laurels and mulish refusal to take the lessons learned those endeavors to heart.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’d do an ad that says: “We don’t pay the tariffs. You do” — Canada

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (6 children)

Which is pretty true. But it's funny because Canada has tougher tariffs on the US meaning their people pay more for things there for exactly the same reason. Canada charges a 300% tariff on dairy.

So yeah. Tariffs are bad. Let's get rid of them entirely.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, that’s only if they make too much. You’re being a jackass on purpose and are probably paid opposition here in the United States. Can it

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

That’s not true btw the only thing 300% or more is dairy products classified as other (dehydrated butter, ghee, anything not covered by other negotiations) and it’s only applied when the amount imported is higher than the agreed upon terms of CUSMA

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

The US and Canada both have dairy tariffs in place. However, they functionally do not exist because they are only applied after a quota is met. For example, last year Canada charged a 0% tariff on all US dairy imports because the total volume of trade never breached the quota limit. This has basically been the case since NAFTA.

Canada, on average, actually charges lower tariffs than the US. That was true before Trump's trade war and remains true today.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Canada can also meet most or all of its own dairy needs. There's no reason a Canadian should be buying dairy from other countries aside from a few niche/luxury products, so that tariff is fine.

Charging tariffs on things a country needs to import is crazy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

So yeah. Tariffs are bad. Let's get rid of them entirely.

70 percent of the revenue of US dairy producers comes from government subsidies lol. As a result they overproduce at less than half the real cost, all from your tax dollars. Pretending like everyone dropping tariffs on US dairy would make dairy trade "fair" is asinine.

They've been running fox news advertising as well.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

“At Fox News we’d bet our bottom dollar that we’d do anything to increase our bottom dollar”

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I like to imagine that the Murdoch news outlets are exchanging money for other outcomes, like spreading racism and hailing corporate.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How long until they spend more time and effort banning this while yelling about it constantly than ever saying one bad thing about how Russia is infiltrating our country by doing almost the exact same thing.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Que ‘24’ timer sound effect

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

For now, sure. Why would it not be?

Maybe next week it will be punished by sending someone to a camp.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ive heard of laws limiting foreign govt propaganda. But i guess this doesn't count.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Neither does AIPAC

From there website:

WE STAND with those who stand with Israel. The AIPAC PAC is a bipartisan, pro-Israel political action committee. It is the largest pro-Israel PAC in America and contributed more resources directly to candidates than any other PAC. 98% of AIPAC-backed candidates won their general election races in 2022.”

WE ENCOURAGE the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Ha! I thought op used a highlighter to cover the screen, and one could just see through it.

But it's just the design of the machine...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They should be more precise: "Trumps tariffs are a tax on your grocery bill". Anyone elses would be, too, yes, but no-one else is that stupid.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wait until 2028 when tariffs are the moderate Democratic policy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

because Democrats insist on chasing Republicans tail as they both run further into fascist degeneracy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Saw the same on a billboard near Hendersonville, NC. Had to look twice.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

In Ohio as well. Too bad Im convinced this state is too stupid to understand anyhow.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

too bad they didn't hire me on the marketing team. my sign for florida would have just said "fuck you".

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Mildly funny

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Americans are going to take this as a statement that Canada themselves are paying the tariffs.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Can I share this on "colorslash"? /s
