Sidebar will be updated when I feel like and considering I'm Sadboi extraordinaire we'll see when that will be.
I ve worked since I was 9 years old, i just hit 6 figures in an advanced IT field with no schooling or certs in that area all self trained. Try harder.
I'm likely older than you, and in more advanced IT than you are if you just now hit 6 figures. I can tell you, that your "try harder" is incredibly myopic and out of touch. The younger folks today are facing challenges older generations never did. You are also not properly recognizing all of the luck you have had to get where you are. Sure, you might have worked hard, but working hard isn't enough if you aren't lucky too. Keep a leash on your hubris or it will strangle you in the end.
Don't think your job is safe either. Globally IT jobs have been hit hard, and this will continue for some time to come. Exercise some empathy today, because you're going to appreciate it later when your luck turns in the future.
I'm not going anywhere pal. I've only been in the advanced field for 3 years. I do more than the people in my field do and I'm learning programming on the side. I'm good.
I’m not going anywhere pal. I’ve only been in the advanced field for 3 years. I do more than the people in my field do
So you're still a child in this industry then. There's nothing wrong with that unless you're too arrogant to realize it.
and I’m learning programming on the side. I’m good.
If you don't at least scripting already you're already dreadfully behind in IT. The days of click-ops IT having a solid career path was over more than 15 years ago. Even most infrastructure is IaC today if you've got a chance for a long future in this industry.
Lol what? IaC for large corporations is extremely expensive. Mid to large still run on internal, you must work for a small ass company.
I'm talking about the future. Your future specfically. See, I'm not offended by your misunderstanding about the industry or trends. You've not been in the industry very long. Time will be your best teacher.
Sorry son, I've got a change control window open and code to deploy. If it passes the smoke test in prod, I'll take you out for an ice cream later. How does that sound, champ?
Don't Fuck it up. They will probably fire you for someone younger and more intelligent that they can pay half.
Oh, I know being laid off is coming anyway regardless of how good a job I do at some point. Its how our industry works. I'm prepared, can weather it, and will have a fine and safe landing. I hope you've been watching so you'll be equally prepared when it happens to you, as it will.
You do realize that you're glossing over the fact that yours is one of the few decently paying fields that allows entry without a degree or certification and doesn't destroy your body, that everyone is different and technology skills are not some people's strong suits, and that opportunities are not given equally, right?
Nah, probably not. This is called survivorship bias, and you've fallen into it hard.
I didn't start here, I worked manual labor from the time i was 9, i did construction in Vegas for shit pay, I worked for a tv installation company and became number 3 in seniority in 3 years. Don't tell me shit about working hard. Anyone can start a business in America with an idea and some drive. Or get into a field they want if they try hard enough. I don't buy it.
I've been making 6 figures in tech as a software engineer for the last few decades. You sound like a coddled white male that has never really faced any real adversity in their life. Maybe instead of being a hater, you could try being less of a hater
That explains it. You know there are incentives for your employer to hire vets, right? You're a DEI hire.
That would probably be true if I was a marine grunt, I'm medically trained USAF. Top 3% of the armed forces. 😊
Doesn't matter if you were top 3% of whatever, being in the AF alone gave you priority in whatever company you work for over someone not in the AF. DEI.They likely received incentives to hire miltary. DEI.
You may not like it but most people complaining about DEI were probably DEI hires themselves, they just don't want to look past their own assholes.
