Good morning, fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT 😁!

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!

4 full days without a drink and the struggle is real. My brain feels tingly and my anxiety is through the roof. I can't stop eating everything in sight lol. I think my body is missing the extra 1000+ liquid calories per day, especially the sugar. I'm hanging on, though.

Yesterday in AA (my first meeting ever) someone said "You don't ever have to drink again." And someone else said "Remember, just don't drink. Don't drink. Don't drink." and I know those aren't exactly profound words, but I keep running those mantras through my head. Attending another meeting tonight, and tomorrow is mini golf with the AA crew. It feels weird to just be completely accepted by a group of strangers but I'm gonna roll with it.

You never have to drink again.

You never have to worry about whether you said something horrible to a friend while you were drunk again.

You never have to wake up hungover and regretful again.

You never have to check your emails and think "wait, I bought what?" again and either scramble to cancel it or faff about with returning it.

You never have to worry about running into friends/your parish priest in the supermarket when all you have in your trolley is gin and biscuits.

You never have to deal with that low level "do they know how much I drink? Am I hiding it sufficiently? Are they judging me?" hum of anxiety.

The video game?

I also was very used to drink while gaming and sometimes still think about getting shit faced to enjoy my gaming day.

But then I realize that’s not true. When drinking you end up playing less cause you need to take a drunk nap or whatever. You spend quite some time being idle or not really into the game as your now poisoned brain can’t thinks that well.

You are also worse at the game cause you’re drunk. After a while you don’t do multiplayer voice chat as you can’t speak without sounding drunk. Your aim becomes shit as your vision gets doubled. In an MMO like RuneScape you might fail your skills rotation almost every time.

Nah, trust me bro, you’re not better at video games while drinking nor it makes you play for a longer time.

Another motivation was "I don’t want to be the drunken teammate always unable to play correctly after 22h", I entirely stopped multiplayer games because of that.

Now that I don’t drink I can play coop games again and chat with friends without being a burden.

I totally relate, I was playing mass effect 2 on insanity and the notorious collector ship seemed so easy, I asked reddit if they nerfed it, they said no it's og, I realised it's cause I was 2 months sober not missing any headshots. just click on their heads bro.
