Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1048 readers
100 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

The most funny fact here is the articles that came in the same time.

Zelensky predicts that Putin 'Will Die Soon'

And from the New York Times:

The Secret History of the War in Ukraine: This is the untold story of America’s hidden role in Ukrainian military operations against Russia’s invading armies.

It just shows that Lemmy or Reddit, both have terrible mods and both can silence your voice on command without any reason.

I'm gonna ask a question: has ever a single post being removed for being european propaganda?

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

So you are posting Russian propaganda and complain when you are banned for posting Russian propaganda?

[–] xyro@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Your article do looks like Russian propaganda

[–] RamblingPanda 11 points 1 week ago

Very. I'm not mad.

[–] xyro@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Most points are laughable, including "Macron’s nuclear remarks: The French president proposed sharing nuclear deterrents within Europe and only stopped short of declaring war on the Russian Federation." Why does our deterrence feel like a threat for Russia ? What are you planning with 30% of your government's spending on military ? 🤣

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Your comment does not show how is this a propaganda.

It only shows that you disagree with the article.

Not everything you disagree with is a propaganda.

[–] xyro@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 week ago

I'm highlighting that EU's deterrance is interpreted as a threat by Russian, who try to expand their border by mean of war (or special military operation 🤣) and spend 30% of their government's budget toward military readiness, because they prepare for war against other countries.

[–] OwlPaste@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

just have to read first 3 paragraphs from your links to see it's russian bullshit. dude, use your critical thinking

[–] bestboyfriendintheworld@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well your linked article can be understood and pretty hard retelling of Russia‘s and thus Trump‘s narrative, while denigrating European perspective and interests.

The mods aren’t terrible if they try to filter what the consider blatant propaganda from a dubious publication.

It could also be banned for low quality.

You are correct that there isn’t a lot of diversity of thought and perspective in many subreddits/communities. The overall extreme polarization has strengthened the echo chambers.

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This is republished by ZNetwork which is pretty reputable source.

It's not just diversity, but a straight banning to cover up the reality.

The community should not be a personal feed for the mod, otherwise what is the point of the community.

In general, Thank you for your understanding and comment.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I agree with others that article was 100% Russian propaganda. Rule 2 of that community is "No links to misinformation". So YDI in that respect.

A month seems like an excessive ban for a first? infraction though - I would have thought a simple removal could have sufficed. So I guess there's a bit of PTB too.

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

How is it a propaganda?

With all respect to you, Logic does not work with vibes.

There has to be a proof, then a conclusion.

Otherwise, it's meaningless.

Again, I highly respect you. But your opinion does not make any sense to me.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 week ago

With all respect to you, Logic does not work with vibes.

Tbh that's a bit like saying, "I mean no offence, but fuck you in the face", lol. Here's three clear examples:

  • The headline paragraph argues that European leaders are delusional and are responsible for escalating tensions with Russia. And that Putin only wants peace. This is a classic Russian disinfo trope to open with, and is in complete denial of reality.
  • Author blames NATO and the US for "provoking" Russia to invade Ukraine. This argument requires us to accept that Ukraine has no right to self determination simply by virtue of having Russia as a neighbour.
  • They accuse Europe of taking a "warmongering stance" when it's Russian military aggression that is provoking all the increased military spending.

I mean, it's just laughably campist nonsense designed to convince people the country that brutally invaded it's neighbour is the innocent victim here, and everyone else in Europe is a warmonger simply for helping Ukraine to resist the invasion. These are all common Russian state media talking points, that's why it's propaganda.

Again, I highly respect you. But your opinion does not make any sense to me.

Same

Appeal to rules and “due process” isn’t going to work like it did a few years ago.

You showed up bulldozing articles day 1. No one thinks you’re just some everyday community member who needs to be protected from the mean old mods.

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So you are saying that contributing to Lemmy regularly, forfit any right to call out power tripping mods?

This is one of the most illogical comments I read on Lemmy.

It's like you were trying to make a argument but you forget to connect it together to make sense.

[–] aubeynarf 13 points 1 week ago

This tactic won’t work either. Try again.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Reposting news articles especially Russian propaganda variety is hardly "contributing to Lemmy regularly"

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Where exactly did I do that?

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I dunno geo-trends.eu, but it does read like exactly the rhetoric pushed on kremlin funded or operated disinformation websites. Like painting Russia as looking for peace and Trump as a genuine negociator is at best immensely naïve, at worst straight up disinformation. (I encourage anyone who disagrees with me to look at the past 30 years of Ukrainian history, context helps).

Generally mods don’t have infinite time. So it they see a tiny website with little to no outside references, and the article they saw reads like Kremlin disinfo, they’ll probably remove it.

I’m not saying the mods necessarily made the right decisions, but I don’t blame them for removing the article. I do question the one month ban though, especially if this was a first time they’ve removed one of your posts/comments.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago

I don't agree with the length of ban personally, but I'd say YDI because that article is trash. No, I don't want to explain why it's trash. More than just being Pro-Russia, it's also supportive of the Trump regime in the USA in a way that feels like bootlicking.

[–] aubeynarf 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You’ve operated this account for 30 days and originated over 600 posts with it. Now you’re going to whine about how hot the kitchen is?

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So... are you shaming me for talking about unfair treatment of mods in a community that has the whole purpose of talking about mod power abuse?

[–] aubeynarf 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

LOL, no, the message I’m sending is completely different from that.

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

How thick are you?

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 11 points 1 week ago

Imaginary peace is cool, hope european leaders actually smarter than the goldfish and can understand that giving into r*ssian blackmail is going to lead to bigger war.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago

PTB. Unless the mods knows something about the author I don't. I don't agree with the article that much but I don't see a need for the mods to play thought police.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I generally don't support removal of content but this is Russian propaganda so I ain't gonna judge although maybe debunking as such would more helpful way to handle it.

It would turn into a pissing contest with tankies tho

Just report on world news sub on lemmy.ml they will give you a medal for it.

[–] Mee@reddthat.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Can. You. Prove. It?

I am tired of people making baseless claims on the comments. If you are going to make a claim, then support it to show that you are right.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 8 points 1 week ago

I am the resident shitposter, boy, and I ain't doing this stupid circle jerk.

Russian talking point is a Russian talking point. I am not the only reading as Russian talking points.

Your choice to try to spread it but don't come in here acting like you are "contributing"

It is a free place and people are free to make their judgement on content you attempting to spread.

[–] aubeynarf 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I think the onus is on you to express what your journalistic standards, source selection criteria, and research processes are; since you have taken a position as a profligate poster.

Such high traffic deserves community scrutiny.

What work did you do, and do you do on the 20-30 reposts per day to prove that you are not disseminating such content?

[–] Rob200@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No one is saying that your voice doesn't risk getting silenced on Lemmy. If they are saying that, it isn't true. Anyone risks getting censored anywhere they go on the web. (If it's your own hosted server however..)

If you join a Lemmy instance server with your rule style, then you can post on their communities and not have as high a risk of getting banned. Once you venture onto communities hosted on other instances.

Since things are federated, things may get dicey for you depending on what you might decide to post, and on the rules of the other instances. (and the communities.)

There are rules and guidelines everywhere you go, and they re always changing when you go onto other servers and communities.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

It just shows that Lemmy or Reddit, both have terrible mods and both can silence your voice on command without any reason.

Nowadays on Reddit something similar would probably get you perma banned site wide

[–] softcat@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

People are screeching about misinformation and propaganda without actually saying which things are falsehoods. Pretty entertaining.

Most opinion pieces and even purportedly neutral news articles are polemic, Russian or otherwise. Don't expect a community called Europe to want content that isn't pro-European jingoism. Only they are allowed to do it!

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Everything in that 'article' is false it's complete bullshit about agressor wanting peace and countries that very reluctantly help defender are 'warmongers', it really is pretty entertaining.

[–] softcat@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The same articles are written every time Europe decides to bomb or occupy a country in Africa or Asia. Coalitions of the willing in Iraq, Libya, Yemen. The list goes on. Our bombs drop freedom, theirs don't

[–] aubeynarf 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

there’s that whataboutism we talked about

[–] softcat@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Right, which is why I advised OP to avoid places which won't like the wrong kind of jingoism. You're understanding now.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

You got some receipts from that specific community or are you just talking in general?
