Looks like there are various problems with it but it has a Gold rating.

The most common complaint is performance, which could explain the Steam Deck Verified rating. If you're running a desktop with modern hardware then you're probably going to have a decent time.

It runs like crap on my "modern" desktop. 5700x 16gb ram 6900xt gen 3 SSD. I don't get why games these days run so badly. Massive frame drops and models not loading in fully with shaders popping in and out. Such a joke.

Lack of optimisation. The spec requirements alone point this out but then they still commonly run like garbage.

Steam deck verification ratings don’t mean much. It’s mostly a joke rating system. No one should take it seriously in its current state.

I feel like the article you're commenting on undermines your case.

The article is written by someone that doesn’t have a clue how reality works currently.

It doesn’t much much.

I think you might be being a bit dramatic.

Sweetie don't get mad just because you don't understand tinker descriptions.

Doesn't that make it even worse for the game, that they couldn't even pass a 'joke' rating system?

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No it means the criteria they use to determine if a game passes or not is inadequate. The resulting status doesn’t represent much.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Unless you're arguing that the criteria are too strict, which it doesn't sound like you are, the system is obviously doing its job in this case at least.

There are tons of games listed as verified which run like shit and don’t work well at all.

There are also tons of games listed as unverified which work great.

Use that information how ever you’d like. But if your take away is “this works great” then I have a bridge to sell you.

[–] yuri@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

your definition of “runs like shit” could mean anything. i personally consider anything lower than like 40fps to be terrible, but i also know steam deck owners who cap it at 30 and have no problems whatsoever.

if a game runs with no slowdown at a solid fps rate that people do specifically target for this system, obviously it’s not gonna be my cup of tea @30 but i can’t say it doesn’t work.

also “unverified” literally just means “we don’t have enough/any reports”. i have no earthly idea why the existence of working-unverified games could be a bad thing.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Cool so in other words it’s a useless system.

not useful to you ≠ totally useless
