How is it different from a generic downloader or locally installed yt-dlp?

if you use yt-dlp <paste yt-link here> you tell youtube your IP-Adress directly. Here you have an indirection, so they know only the IP of the service.

But … such a service might be compromised and watermark the content you download and be unreliable when it is hit by high/abusive traffic.
