80s Music
Jam out to 80's music! Post some music and let's talk about it.
Rules
- All aspects of the LW TOS apply.
- Be constructive and don't gatekeep. People have different tastes in music; deal with it.
- If the source is YouTube, use the actual YouTube URL and not some random Invidious/Piped link. This prevents dead links as those go on/offline or break due to Google changes while also letting people's browser plugins, Lemmy clients, etc automatically re-write those to their preferred instances. Feel free to put alternate links in the post body, though.
- Submissions must be from the 80s (1980 - 1989) based on either recorded or release date. e.g. if it was recorded in 1989 but released in 1990, we're not going to split hairs over that; post away. Covers made in the 80s of older music is absolutely allowed and encouraged.
Posting Guidelines / Suggestions
- The preferred title format is
Artist - Song Name [YEAR]
- If a song has a particular meaning or evokes a pleasant memory for you, feel free to share your story with it.
If you have other suggestions that would help grow the community and/or foster discussion, please feel free to share.
What most people dont realize is that 99 Luftballons - as well as other early songs - where done by the whole band, as opposed to the singer's later solo songs. So I feel like with 99 Luftballons we can simply go "four nice guys and one crazy lady".
Which is also another way to describe The Beetles.
Well, that's disappointing.
She never impressed anyone with her intelligence.
There was a singer/group that I loved and I had the terrible idea of looking for them. I wanted to see if they were still active and performing. Well, the main guy created a shady church, abused a few women and even kids and is in prison now. I can’t listen to them anymore.
It's a good song, but what the fuck was the English release about? 🤣
The story of the song (English and German) is about someone releasing balloons causing a radar operator to mistake them for nuclear weapons and starting World War III.
False alarm of this nature were disturbingly common.
Edit: In the German version the balloons are mistaken for UFOs. Here's a direct comparison between the two versions.
The most impressive thing to me is that in both versions they managed to perfectly insert Captain Kirk, and make it intelligible, and fit both the rhyming and tempo schemes.
I had this song stuck in my head from the moment I woke up through sometime around noon, every day, for like three months. Although I enjoy the song, I was sick of it for a while.
In the 80s it was on repeat in the Dutch charts.
Goddamn she's so hot in those tight black leather pants
Happy hardcore version is better than original
Look, I love my rave days as much as the next candy kid, but no. It had potential, but repeating the first verse of the song 5-6 times and inserting a happy hardcore track underneath destroys the song. I'm not sure I wouldn't have been irritated even with extacy. Finish the song.
I don't care if you have to go The Orb Blue Room style and make a 45 minute song, just finish the song.
