The Biden administration allowed Israel unprecedented leeway to carry out its military offensive, despite the enormous death and devastation it inflicted on Gaza. Former Israeli ambassador, Michael Herzog, made a startling admission about Biden’s support:

“God did the State of Israel a favour that Biden was the president during this period. We fought [in Gaza] for over a year and the administration never came to us and said, ‘ceasefire now.’ It never did. And that’s not to be taken for granted.”

His remarks encapsulated a broader sentiment that the White House gave Benjamin Netanyahu all the political space he needed to execute the military offensive, which has claimed the lives of more than 52,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children.

Money talks. You want democrats who act normal about Israel, fix campaign finance. The Israel lobby did this.

Biden officials revealed that Netanyahu deliberately tanked negotiations, fearing a deal would force him to end the war

seems like Biden admin was very much getting involved

this is opinion piece from middleeastmonitor, as usual oddly anti dem and not anti trump

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As usual what?

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20250430-us-president-trump-claims-india-pakistan-have-fought-over-kashmir-for-1500-years/

Trump’s comments have since been ridiculed by many as a gaffe, particularly due to the fact that the establishment of Pakistan and the partition of the Indian subcontinent took place in 1947. That was barely 78 years ago, in contrast to the president’s remarks of the conflict over Kashmir being 1,500-years-old, making it historically impossible.

trying to pin gaza on the dems, so helping trump

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No you are trying to pin Democrats genocide on Trump to help Democrats.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

the dem's genocide now that'a thing now ain'it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Is it genocide denial time already?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

You know I thought I recalled something like that. I was commenting while sleepy, I remember talking about how Netanyahu preferred Trump and was trying to make Biden eat shit. I guess recognising Jerusalem bought Trump that treatment.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We would need a govt who would vote against their own interest as well as repeal Citizens United.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

I don't think it's impossible to fix campaign finance - elected officials don't want to have to constantly be chasing payola in the campaign finance arms race. It's just hard to change a paradigm from the inside.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 week ago

God has nothing to do with Israel. It's also quite the hubris to say their deity has helped them do something that has spread awareness of how evil they are to every corner of the world in ways never known before.

Democrats and Republicans are two different sides of the same coin

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"ThEy'Re BoTh ThE sAmE!!1!"

Not this idiotic argument again! The Democrats are definitely flawed as a political party. They have many large blindspots like this one. But they are miles away on a number of key issues from the GOP. And if you don't see that then you are part of the problem that got us into this clusterfuck.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Sure they have important differences. At the same time however, it is the height of tone-deaf arrogance to expect people to vote for their own genocidal oppressors.

Kamala likely lost Michigan due to her support for Israeli Apartheid and genocide. The Muslim population there quite understandably didn't want to vote for her. You can't really come to a group of people and say, "yes, we admit that we're supporting a genocide of your people, but we need you to still vote for us for the good things we actually will do. We're going to keep committing genocide against you, but we need you to vote for us for the sake of democracy."

Trump and Kamala were largely indistinguishable on the Gaza issue. Trump is just a lot ruder about it. Yet, in the months following the election, we've seen countless gloating by centrist Democrats openly celebrating further violence by the Israelis, gleefully mocking Palestinians and their supporters, saying that this wouldn't have happened if Kamala won. Now we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Biden, Kamala, and Trump all shared the same policy towards Israel - full and unconditional support with no limits or red lines whatsoever. Gaza was getting wiped off the map no matter who was elected. Notably, despite being still active in politics, to this day, neither Kamala nor Biden have spoken a single word publicly against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza. Even though they're out of power and have nothing to lose by speaking out, they still fully support the actions of the Israeli government.

Are there still good reasons to have supported Kamala? Sure. But I also don't expect anyone whose people are being genocided to vote for those other reasons. If you're not willing to prevent a people from being literally murdered, then you can't come groveling to those people, asking for their votes. If you don't care about someone's life, why should they care about your democracy? This is basic Maslow's hierarchy of needs shit. People don't have the luxury of worrying about abstract goods like democracy when their basic material survival is threatened.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

The person you're responding to didn't say anything about anyone being forced to vote for anyone, much less that Palestinians should.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

Well if it comforts you, the same analogy could be interpreted as them being 'opposites'

Still 'of the same coin', though

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nothing has changed since Trump took office. Everything is status quo!

Sure bud

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

I'm not great at reading but I don't think thats what they said

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago

I generally agree "both sides" is a shitty argument, but thinking democrats are going to save us is naive. Time and again they have shown us who bought their vote, while ignoring those who voted for them. They will happily take your money and smile while mitigating any real impact you could have on the status quo.

The reality is both parties are beholden to their wealthy donors over the needs of the average American.

The right exists to ratchet us to the right toward fascism, and the corporate Democrats are there to make sure things don't shift too far left when Republicans lose power. Notice how democrats stopped taking about universal Healthcare and spent 0 air time talking about the needs of the average American in the 2024 election? Much easier to push the most regressive antiimmigration legislation they've ever pushed, basically giving Republicans the groundwork for the shit we see today. I say democrats but it's not Progressives that run the party, money backs the corporate Dems.

Money has poisoned our political system and until we do away with money in elections we will have a broken system that serves only those with lots of money.

"Biden is doing his best to pressure them to stop!"

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

When a centrist tells you something is happening behind the scenes, the best possible outcome is that they're doing nothing.

The most likely outcome is that they are actively working in the opposite direction.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago

Which makes AOC using the "working tirelessly on a ceasefire" line at the DNC so much more enraging.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Biden was and always will be better than Trump... But he was a fucking piece of shit. Fuck Biden.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

It's apples and oranges... both can spoil, but I'm deathly alergic to oranges.

So here's what I pulled from the dropsite link in the article.

Netanyahu Sabotaged Captives Release Talks to Prolong the War

Biden officials revealed that Netanyahu deliberately tanked negotiations, fearing a deal would force him to end the war.

American-Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin was scheduled for release the day he was executed. Amos Hochstein confirmed: “There’s no doubt… those hostages would be alive.”

Netanyahu’s public campaign to retain control over Gaza’s Philadelphi Corridor was viewed by Biden officials as a smokescreen to kill the deal.

I'm not seeing damning proof that Biden didn't do anything. In fact point two send to imply that Biden was doing shit to get a cease fire.

But if course this is a opinion piece so it's not like you need to have citations that match the opinion.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Biden gave zero genuine pressure to end the genocide. Instead of implementing a weapons embargo, he sent tens of billions worth of weapons used to prolong the genocide.

One Year of Empty Rhetoric From the White House on Israel’s Wars

From the MEMO article:

The Biden administration allowed Israel unprecedented leeway to carry out its military offensive, despite the enormous death and devastation it inflicted on Gaza. Former Israeli ambassador, Michael Herzog, made a startling admission about Biden’s support: “God did the State of Israel a favour that Biden was the president during this period. We fought [in Gaza] for over a year and the administration never came to us and said, ‘ceasefire now.’ It never did. And that’s not to be taken for granted.” His remarks encapsulated a broader sentiment that the White House gave Benjamin Netanyahu all the political space he needed to execute the military offensive, which has claimed the lives of more than 52,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children.

Even the proposal to ethnically cleanse the entire population of Gaza, or 'empty Gaza of palesinians,' by removing them to neighboring countries, was first proposed by the Biden admin behind closed doors

The diplomat said Egypt rejected similar proposals from the Biden administration and European countries early in the war, which was sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack into southern Israel. The earlier proposals were broached privately, while Trump announced his plan at a White House press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The citations do not match opinions.

The citations match reality.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, I can absolutely believe that the citation matches reality since it is a Israeli journalist pointing out how Netanyahu went to lengths to sabotage the peace deal and worked against the Biden administrations attempt at peace.

Still a opinion piece that uses a citation that does not support the argument contained in the opinion piece.

Then again, you can believe that Biden didn't do enough, can't say I don't disagree just not to the extent you do. I simply this think this opinion piece isn't great.
