Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

People don’t like small cars. Can’t sell them. Nobody wants a small EV. Build pickup trucks.

ETA: because apparently it’s not immediately obvious: /s

JFC apparently.

Just because you don’t want one, it doesn’t mean nobody else does. The vast majority of people here drive smaller cars.

You don't think that maybe they are being sarcastic as Tesla (and for a long time European manufacturers) didn't make a compact affordable EV.

“For a long time”

Still doesn’t. Model Y is pretty large.

And yes, 100% sarcasm. GM killed the Bolt because it was selling like hotcakes and replaced it with the hummer. And eventually the Blazer which was something like 15k more.

GM is not a European manufacturer. The Volkswagen ID3 is about the same size as the Bolt and sells pretty well for example.

I can't stand that you have to add a /s to an obviously sarcastic comment just because no one in currentyear can apply critical thinking skills.

I love my small EV. Gets great mileage, easy to park, and helps me nimbly pick through traffic jams.

Yeah, if the Smart EV was more reasonable I’d have one. My Diesel Smart was brilliant. But it’s hard to justify the cost when it’s literally half a car and not really any cheaper to run. So I got a small EV, but they’re hard AF to find.

I hate driving a boat; the smaller the vehicle, the better. I'm going to hang on to my 350Z and Miata until someone (not Tesla) makes an EV Roadster for under $30K. SUVs, trucks, and crossovers can go kick sand. You'll never see me driving one. I like being able to take a turn at a decent speed, and fit in a normal-sized parking space.

That's hilarious since the EU introduced anticompetitive tariffs on Chinese vehicles last year. China was actually willing to negotiate with the EU to set a minimum price. And they're still more popular than anything the west can produce.

The EU just probed into Chinese EV makers to figure out what kind of subsidies they get in China and then added those back on top in form of tariffs. You know a sensible approach.

Also no they are not more populare then what the West can produce at the moment. At least not in the EU. BYD got below 3.5% market share in the EV space in Germany.

The thing about tarrifs is they don't work well on highly desirable goods. You're not making the cars unaffordable, you're making them luxury items.

Incidentally, this is the same reason extremely wealthy Chinese residents had been buying the heavily taxed American SUVs. It wasn't about having the "best" car, it was about having something nobody else could get.

I think that some of the “western” EVs are using Chinese drivetrains too. Missed opportunity to innovate, like Lucid has.
