Silent Hill 2 remake has just been released on GOG. Definitely wasn't expecting this to happen less than a year after release.

Truly a good old game

I tried this on my 6700XT I had to play in 720p, the performance was that bad. Any of the available upscalers just made it look worse.

I upgraded to a more modern card since then and it works fine, but if you’re on something like a 6700xt I’d be wary or prepare to refund if you don’t like the performance.

I played on my Steam Deck on launch because i really wanted to play it. It was an experience lol. Most of the game was playable, but the prison got tedious at points with the lag

I have a 4070 and it runs well at 1080p which is plenty for me 😊.

Interesting to see it's already nr 1 on their bestsellers list considering most of the others are heavely discounted games.

That is nice! The game looks incredible. Have it already wishlisted and I'm eager to play it because I didn't play the original.

I presume they still haven't fixed the traversal stutter...

I don’t think I’ve seen any UE5 game that’s been released with traversal stutter have it fixed… so, I presume not as well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

You can fix that with a mod that disables Nanite.

This is great news! Pretty awesome remake.

$70 for a remake? What am I missing?

It’s an interesting take on the game: while the core plot points are in place, the game has been made more true to imagination, and has been expanded to about double-and-a-half length without ever feeling like filler. Think of it somewhere between a remix and an extended cut.

The opening sequence of the game, just as you enter town, has Vachss street blocked off, and you go somewhere else to get your nailed two-by-four, in a separate series of events. It’s well done and the rest of the game is reshuffled in a similar fashion.

Interesting. I just started playing the remake. I wasn't aware that the game was altered like this. Hope we get the original as well so that I can play them both.

Yeah, if you want the original, grab the rom and an HD texture pack. I’m glad I got to see a longer form of a similar but not exact experience.

Tap for spoiler

oh also the mannequins can climb walls and hang off ceilings now, enjoy

A great modern game much better than the original. Worth it even if you played the original.

i paid nearly $100 CAD for the game, and I don’t regret it.

Such a good campaign.

I played the first one or two long ago, I think it was early 00s. They were great, I was living in a big, long-abandoned commercial building we'd squatted and had a big screen (for those days) I'd found & fixed, amp and speakers likewise. I'd get stoned, stay up late playing alone, so atmospheric and proper scary. I really enjoyed them.

I am sure I've forgotten enough plot to enjoy playing remakes but I'd be playing em on steam deck, and I'm a little worried they wouldn't live up to my memories.
