Trump has had dementia for years. He was sundowning during the most recent campaign but the news prefers small and selective soundbites which minimize his crazy ramblings.

Just watch any of his incoherent rambling speeches where he talks for several minutes. That is what dementia looks like.

There's also all the sane washing.

Trump: Rambles through a press conference making no sense at all.

Media: What Trump is saying here is...

You know ow who we should elect as president? Some dementia riddled narcissist who needs the news to translate the most generous interpretation of whatevee he is rambling about into the only language he speaks!

And of course the majority of time the news was wrong, because he meant the worst interpretation.

You know ow who we should elect as president?

I love the random 'ow' in there. I know it's just a typo, but it really comes across as a metaphor for how just thinking of Trump as president causes me mental pain.

My theory is that this is also why his family seems to be involved a lot less in the administration than the last term. Smarter evil people have usurped control behind the scenes.

And if the guillotines ever come out, those people can slip quietly out the back.

Are republicans known for their strong pull out game?

You mean we're not going to get a literal dome over the whole United States?! Like the literal dome made of ferrous metal over Israel?

The press gave Biden lots of grace all through his term and campaign, right up to the debate. At that point it was obvious to literally everyone, and they had to cover it.

Trump gets the same treatment. However trump is different, in that he has always been dumb. Seriously I'm virtually certain his IQ is under 85, even odds it's under 80. So his incoherence is the baseline. And he's spent a lifetime covering for his own dumb statements. He's uncommonly good at masking his ignorance to people. That's why the news doesn't point it out so much. Because it not new, and he's practiced at making plausible excuses.

Good take.

It's apples to oranges in that Trump is able to perform as expected and Biden was no longer able to do so. That said, I don't think enough people in this country care about their guy being demented enough for the 25th to ever be a remote possibility.

Can you explain what you mean by IF?

Well, you can always readminister the highly sophisticated "Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV" test.

Lawrence O'Donnell gets a lot of mileage out of this take. Almost too much mileage.

Biden has cancer not dementia ya dumbass. And we would love for him to act like Biden rather than a papmered 4 year old. At least Biden IS an adult

That announcement that the majority of Americans can't read above a 6th grade level makes so much sense. They're all so fucking dumb and illiterate that they can't follow an argument. TACO bellowed a bunch of insane gobbledegook and was emotionally unregulated at the debate, while Biden got words mixed up and a bit lost while at least pursuing a line of thought to a logical conclusion. But even so, his arguments were still too intellectually taxing for an audience of howler monkeys who decided, "LOUD VOICE WIN!"
