Especially tears of the kingdom.

If you want tears of the kingdom it is cheaper to buy the "old version" second hand OR new and get the $10 upgrade. Please don't be buying this

New Switch 1 version is $70, unless on sale, so with $10 upgrade it becomes $80.

Buying on sale is a good option though.

So what you're saying is that people should buy games used instead of new. Got it.

Yes, but people aren't and are going to ruin the market

Your math isn't really mathing...

It's new math. In this new approach, the important thing is to ~~understand what you're doing~~ rebroadcast the narrative, rather than to get the right answer.

Totk switch 2 is $80.

Totk for switch is 60, + 10 upgrade = $70.

You are correct and I'm wrong. But right now you can get it on sale for around $50 at Walmart.

I thought Nintendo games never went on sale? 🤯

Assuming you are serious, this is a bit of exaggeration, but when compared to other games, you can say that. Their digital games go for about 30% sale at max, but that is also very rare. Though some games have more sales than others.

Physical on the other hands have different amount of sales, depending on retailers.

This is only for their first party games though, third party games regularly go on sale, and generally have similar (but not always same) pricing as other consoles.

It's almost like the entire narrative is just bad faith tribalism.

It's exaggerated alright, but Nintendo first-party titles very rarely go on sale and when they do, savings are lower than other manufacturers' first-party titles.

As an example, BotW is at around 35% discount a couple times a year on average (although it wasn't on sale at all for around two years, 2020-22).
In comparison, on Sony's side, Demon's Souls is at around 55% discount these days when it's on sale every couple months or so. And yes, that's technically a second-party title, but I feel it's more relevant to compare launch games in this instance.
Even Sony is becoming greedy with its own published games not getting huge sales like they used to.

Love Nintendo IP's but I ain't buying $80 games while having a Steam Deck

I’m torn here… PS5/XBox games brand new can easily go this high or much higher (definitely seen a bunch over $100, especially for special editions and such.) and I recommend absolutely no one does that either…

However, if no one bought them new for whatever the cost, I’d not be able to get used copies secondhand.

Sales are obviously the way to go, but used games basically account for the majority of my physical copies, especially for Nintendo stuff. I just happen to like physically owning things.

I've never seen a base game over $70 on PC. Xbox or PS5

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Xbox has announced that some of it's games will be $80 now. The Outer Worlds 2 is the first one but more will continue.

Sony and other third party publishers haven't announced any price increase yet though, it is expected by many people that most of them will make the jump within an year or so, but since they haven't done it yet, we can't count them.
