Its not unemployment, its a one-person strike.

[–] [email protected] 60 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This reminds me. How do japanese shut ins afford to live the way they do?

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 days ago

The era of remote work has presented new opportunities for many.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The same way people here do probably. Mooching off their parents/friends/spouse/government.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

mooching

Interesting choice of words, when discussing people with mental health issues.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Bro, I have a limited amount of money, and plenty of my own problems. You can figure out your own shit.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 days ago

Trust me. The two cents of your taxes that go to help you neighbors isn't making your debt worse.

Now the billions going to the already rich...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Not if you stand between me and a functioning society, stonewalling every attempt af infrastructure or efficient services. Not if I need to pay for your imperial bullshit wars and your fucking death squads to disapoear my neighbors loudly at the hour of fuck-you AM and your fucking cops to gas and beat my friends. Not if I have to pay for uour fuvking prisons.

If im paying for all that, you're paying for my fucking food stamps.

Fuck your debt, you moocher piece of shit. You owe me.

Edit: you could also just get the fuck out. Just fuck off. Get the fuck out, we clearly don't want to run things the same, we don't need to be in the same country, we're both in border states. You could just fuck off. We'd let you. We don't fucking want you here. Just get the fuck out. That woukd also be pretty cool.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Who asked you for money lol

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Read up a couple or three comments, and you'll see the word "mooching."

That's what I was replying to, and as I have very little too mooch, fuck off.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I haven't known any shut ins that would qualify as having mental heath issues. Most of the people I know who never leave their house just don't want to have a job. They don't have any problems leaving the house or dealing with people they just don't want to work or support themselves. Of course instances where they physically can't leave their house because of mental health issues and trauma are different, but again that's never been my experience when dealing with people like that and I've known a lot of people who would be called "shut ins".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So 100% of the ones you know have no problems leaving the house and functioning?

That doesnt sound like a very fair sample

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I did say that's just been my experience and I did say that people with legitimate problems are different. The cases I've seen are spouses or partners who don't work but their partner has to do the work of two people or kids living with their parents well into their 40s and don't ever try to support themselves. I've known some people who bounce from couch to couch until the person they're staying with get's sick of them never contributing and kicks them out. Sometimes they do eventually become self sufficient and sometimes they find someone who's willing to support them and marry them never having to lift a finger. I doubt I'd ever be in the position to meet a real shut in who can't leave their house because they legitimate problems or have been traumatized so this has just been my experience.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The mooches are down voting

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Or just the people with basic deductive abilities.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Are they seeking help for it? If not, sounds like mooching to me.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 days ago (3 children)

“You’ve got a problem that makes it difficult for you to seek help for it. Fucking mooch.”

Another .world lib strikes again

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So how do you propose the problem gets solved? It's unlikely someone who does not want to change will.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Social welfare checks. These are solved problems.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

lib

u wot m8

I agree with you point but wtf does that even mean

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

So what do you propose? We just let them be and allow them to suffer?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Good one bro

[–] [email protected] 80 points 2 days ago (4 children)

How this guy drinking wine and smoking at bistros unemployed like, he rich or what?

[–] [email protected] 57 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Many non-US places (otherwise known as the rest of the world) have cheap wine, cheap food, and social benefits. Cigs though idk, you'd have to be insane to smoke in most developed countries because if the cancer doesn't kill you, the prices will.

::: spoiler Sorry to be so snarky but it's a lot funnier to put it that way. :::

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 days ago (5 children)

cigarettes are like $2 for a pack in my country lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm literally crying right now as an American smoker 😭

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Careful, you might overexert yourself.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Good burn, I respect it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Same here. Or they would be if they made 3 cigarette packs.

True. Bit of a tangent but one issue when you have free Healthcare the cost of smoking to individuals is lower. Genuinely it's a problem - sometimes people don't value their health as much as they should because of ease of access to Healthcare. I'm 1000% in favour of free Healthcare, it's just an interesting paradox.

Public health measures focusing on increasing the cost of smoking through tax work but we don't have the pressure to stop smoking due to the cost of Healthcare itself which can make it harder to get people to understand the effects. Meanwhile public organisations understand the cost of smoking and invest in trying to reduce it as it puts huge pressure on Healthcare systems. Not just cancer but it's a major driver of cardiovascular disease (heart attacks, peripheral vascular disease) and lung diseases (emphysema / COPD). The costs of smoking related diseases is staggering.

Smoking is in decline across the west but we've known since the 1940s and 1950s definitely that smoking is bad yet smoking rates have been persistently high in Europe until more recently - last 20 years or so.

Smoking rates in France for example - 23% still smoke but there has been a huge decline in the last 20 years. Yet smoking was banned on public transport in the 1970s. To be clear I'm not saying it's because of free Healthcare - just that in countries with good Healthcare systems there is more going on. People have known for 80 years smoking is bad and there has been a gradual decline but big shifts have happened surprisingly recently.

Edit: maybe this is a bit ott comment for a meme lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

You're acting like people make rational long term decisions. They don't. Money cost of health issues is not a factor long term.

By making YouTube videos, duh

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 days ago

I watched his videos a while ago and if I remember right he said that he just saved up money at his last job and was living off that. I'm also pretty sure he was living in London so definitely nothing cheap.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Like the previous poster said, there is a whole world out there where this sort of thing is very cheap.

In the west, everything is very expensive simply because people have the money to pay that much for it. We are working our entire lives with temporary relief now and then with overpriced alcohol. It sucks.

Im getting off the 9 to 5 myself this year and living on savings and stock market. Cant waste more of my life at work anymore but im 50 now and worked for 25 years. Im expected to continue working until im 70, but fuck that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How much money did you save up and what monthly costs of living are you expecting? Would love to hear more about your situation!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

In dollars, about 500.000. So if stocks go up 1%, thats 5000 dollars.

My monthly costs are about half of that. So im thinking it should work out fine. Its a risk of course, but its not a huge risk to take. I think its going to be fine.

i watched the videos and its safe to say this guy has a better life then md

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Finally someone who gets me

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Phhht amateur numbers. I have worked maybe a year in the last 25yrs and only because it was a cool job and I had some fun times. But it left me not much time for my hobbies.

Also smokers would pay any price for their fix, no matter the income. Anything else has to be adjusted around that. I have never heard of someone quitting smoking because they can't afford it anymore.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Allow me to introduce myself ;)

I quit smoking 9 years ago, because it was getting too expensive. Which definitely made it harder for me to quit, because I didn't stop because I wanted to. Back then prices for the brand I bought were "only" at 4.69 euro / 5.48 usd, but I knew it was only going to get worse from there. Now they're at 8.04 eur / 9.40 usd, and I'm so happy I quit, but even more so because of my health, which I didn't care about back then.

EDIT: Just checked, and it was actually 9 years ago, not 8.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

great to hear that

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Congrats on quitting, you're a heck of a success story!

I'm just a lucky fucker that doesn't need overly much to exist. Beside an expensive hobby (smarthome and gaming and servers) I don't need fancy houses, cars or clothes. We don't travel much and have no kids nor pets. The latter save a lot 😁

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm the same way to be honest. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I wish you the best 😊
