Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

She did freeze her own kingdom, many people were suffering, she tried to murder guards who wanted to bring her down and eventually basically murdered Anna in an anger by freezing her heart. The woman has obvious anger problems and is dangerous to her surrounding. It was a right decision to jail her so she can't hurt anyone else

I think OP Can't hold it back anymore

I think they might slam a door.

Down with the monarchy!

In a world of chaotic magic though, you also have to factor in the potential side effects of jailing someone with uncontrolled magic.

It's very possible that jailing her could make things worse, potentially producing disastrous effects.

I'd say banishment would be more practical, ideally sending her off to somewhere where she can get help. At least temporarily relocating her out of range of harming others, then promptly sending messengers to kingdoms to find anyone who may be able to help her with her powers.

While of course still keeping her supplied and having a liason between her abd the kingdom, so she isn't totally isolated, and keeping her updated on attempts to locate help.

Of course this should've been done long before she was a grown woman, she should've had a teacher found when she was still a child, instead of just locking her up in her room forever.

I'll keep it a headcannon that this was reasonably the case, that her entire childhood in isolation simultaneously had messengers desperately searching for help far and wide, and they truly just never were able to find her a teacher or anyone who knew wtf was going on and could help, her powers were just that esoteric.

Anything less wouldn't make sense, but perhaps wasn't worth spending screen time on...

Yes, incarcerating the mentally unwell, that's the solution. Lemme guess: American public schooling?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

(taking this discussion as seriously as you) Yeah let's just NOT jail people who murdered and caused untold suffering on an entire kingdom simply because they're mentally ill. We should have put Mussolini in therapy instead of executing him, too /s

You do a disservice to the mentally ill jailed for homelessness and addiction by putting a mass murderer in the same category for judgement.

Murder? Where? Of whom, exactly? "Untold suffering" sounds like a shite way to insinuate your opinion is fact enough. Do better.

From the OP:

eventually basically murdered Anna in an anger by freezing her heart.

She turned her kingdom into a frozen wasteland but yeah I guess you're right, frozen wastelands where people lived doesn't imply human suffering at all. So better.

They're in fucking rural Norway. In winter. It's not like she froze Miami in a blink. She didn't even have to shift the temp much, just the relative humidity a few ticks, and the very same winterizing protocols would be effective. Thafuq are you even talking about.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It was pretty lush in the film and rural Norway does not have eternal winter, thafuq are YOU even talking about?

I was looking up the timeline of story (which I did not find) and discovered she also caused all fires to go out and all water to disappear. Elsa is a criminal even though she fixed it in the end

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Eternal" winter? Hyperbole is a hallmark of a flailing argument. Secondly, fires "going out" are easily rekindled and inconvenience is not often crime. Lastly, water doesn't "disappear" when it freezes. What grade are you in?!

I mean, if you need Elsa to be the villain, you and your justice-chub should probably get a room. Afterward, maybe you can apply some plain logic to this fantasy you're stitching together here, eh? 🤦🏼‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It was an eternal winter. Had she not reversed it, it would never have ended. That is the story of Frozen, a documentary that you have apparently never seen.

My next paragraph was not about the eternal winter at all. Further proof that you've never read anything on the history of Arendelle.

Three years later, Elsa inadvertently awoke the spirits of Enchanted Forest, endangering Arendelle. This caused the elements to become disturbed: the fires of the kingdom went out, the water disappeared, the wind whipped up into a gale and the cobblestones began to shift under the citizens' feet.

The water wasn't frozen, you fake fan. It disappeared. Maybe try applying some logic you think I lack to the conversation at hand instead of assuming that all these events discussed happened at the same time. Jeez.

Arguing over the morality of a children's movie and commenting on porn? all on one account? That sounds like homeschooling to me!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The inability to support ones argument without puritanical pearl clutching and personal attacks? Aw, baby lose their passie? Poor fucking moron. Aw.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I hope you two keep arguing because you both seem delightfully annoying

I didn't think the response to Franklin could be unjustified and yet I might now hate Blue even more

This is all Anna’s fault for falling in love with the first dude to smile at her

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I blame the parents. They instilled all these neuroses in her because they didn't understand and feared her. All the things you listed are the symptoms of the fact that her parents were crap. But I applaud your unpopular opinion.

This holds true for most superheroes, too. They're a MENACE!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

What are you JJJ ?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, but inside her, she's a good person. Maybe she has mild bipolar or mild autism

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Don't worry guys the muderer is actually really nice inside so they don't have to go to jail

And STOP DIAGNOSING EVERYONE WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS! She doesn't have bipolar, she just has trauma, that's like the whole point of the movie! This is like when people jump to ADHD when kindergarteners can't stay still.
