Which one will kill me faster?

People buy bikes and don’t just repair old abandoned ones?

I don’t agree with this particular usecase. Because I’ve personally experienced, people who shun “negativity” meaning they just completely ignore people’s suffering which often adds a devastating layer of invisibility to oppression. But probably hopefully this isn’t your case and it’s more about “doom and gloom” than people’s reality of suffering.

But anyways, I do agree that blocklists are probably a feature that lemmy needs.

I think it’s also easy to misinterpret something on one post. A lot of times something that looked bigoted or dodgy opinion was just poorly done sarcasm or something.

There is a voyager frontend on web. But I think it’s only a mobile view https://vger.app/posts/lemm.ee/all

Also, voyager lets you tag users which is a godsend.

If I notice someone who is unnecessarily rude, dodgy opinions, bigoted or something, I add a tag, and if I see it is constant repetitive behaviour, I’ll block them.

I love the painting. They seem really good at shading.

Couple examples of elections preventing facism:

  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_legislative_election,_1974 – Marked the end of military junta and blocked far-right resurgence
  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_presidential_election,_2002 – Voters united to block Jean-Marie Le Pen, far-right candidate, in second round
  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_presidential_election,_2016 – Voters narrowly rejected far-right FPÖ candidate Norbert Hofer
  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_general_election,_2022 – Lula defeated Jair Bolsonaro, preventing further slide into authoritarianism
  • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_parliamentary_election,_2023 – Opposition coalition defeated Law and Justice party, halting authoritarian drift

Theoretically, anytime a facist runs and loses an election and doesn’t subsequently stage a coup into power, voting prevents facism.

now that I think of it, it works both ways, you could use it to criticise people who vote for Harris as she obviously didn’t have great policies on things like Palestine.

Or you could use it to criticise people who don’t vote because then they let trump win which is far worse for minorities than Harris.

As a "young" adult it absolutely baffles me people use notifications. I already check my phone enough without them, and if I did have notifications on I'd literally get a ding every 20 mins. If I'm expecting a call sure I'll turn them on, but apart from that it's an alien concept to me.

Also Germany has one of the largest populations in europe, and they tend to speak English very well unlike France/Italy/Spain.

If Lemmy is mainly made of western countries with high proportions of anglophone speakers, the prevalence of German speakers isn't really a suprise,

I’m thinking of buying one of the two models, not to read but because I have a disability that basically makes it impossible for me to use normal phones due to visual overload. I have a couple questions:

  1. How dim does the backlight go? Can it get so dim that you barely realise it is on — kind of like minimum phone brightness?
  2. What is the experience like when typing? Could you use the phone to send messages?
  3. What does the hardware feel like? It seems the CPU is pretty weak, do you feel that at all when using? What do you think the longevity would be like?
  4. Do you think a usecase like leaving the display on as a button pad with a bunch of shortcuts would be a workable usecase?
  5. Can the customisable sidebutton be programmed to do literally anything? Like could I link it to a Tasker shortcut or something?
  6. I’ve noticed that people say the settings are rather limited compared to normal android? Has that limited you in any way, are things like DNS and VPN still usable?

Several government resources about accommodations for people with Long COVID have become unavailable in the last week, following purges of government websites and datasets under the Trump administration. These pages offered crucial information about rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for people with Long COVID and their employers.

In 2021, the federal government recognized that Long COVID can be considered a disability under the ADA. Pages and articles on AskJAN, a public-facing website by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Accommodation Network, explained how people with Long COVID could use this law to request accommodations that would make their jobs, schools, or other aspects of their day-to-day lives possible.

As of February 11, Long COVID is no longer included in AskJAN’s directory of disabilities. The website’s Long COVID resources — which previously included information about the disease’s legal status, key symptoms, and suggestions for accommodations — are also unavailable. (View an archived copy of AskJAN’s Long COVID landing page here.)
