Tumblr teaches me a lot about things I never knew that I needed to know. Not about English lit and so on (I had a surprisingly thorough education in that area), but the science side of tumblr taught me more than I would ever have thought possible.

Also quite a lot about how to interact with cats.

Or a commentary on the crappy education system in whatever country the commenter comes from.

If they aren't taught Shakespeare or ancient history it's possible they may not have learned about this event in history.

Because I assumed the quote meant that you don't have to respect the free will of all beings, especially those who make themselves an obstacle to a kinder world.

There were plenty of times when a scene would be described as "We see the family on a normal Saturday night. Dad is sat in front of the TV, mum is sat at the table, doing a jigsaw. The kids are sat on the floor, playing a game"

That was the language I grew up with, and to use "sitting" instead of sat" would just have sounded weird.

I mean -- "the family is sitting down to dinner", sure -- that sounds normal because it is something they are doing. But if it is passive speech (so to speak) then why would anyone use "sitting"? It's just weird.

And I have used "is sat" my entire life -- which is quite a long time.

So I have been using tumblr forever (well -- for quite a while) but I really haven't paid attention to what is going on behind the scenes.

I was quite active around opposing the porn ban and the nudity ban and so on (not because I am a fan of porn or nudity -- I mean I am, but mostly because I am more of a fan of free speech on tumblr, but that's not my point) but as for the backend stuff (not a metaphor in this case!) like yahoo and the fediverse and wattpad and so on........... I have no idea what any of this would mean.

So if some nice person could give me a summary I would be very grateful, because it does seem to be a topic that ignites some passion and if tumblr is about to crash and burn I'd like to get some advanced warning.
