Canada geese are the worst. But I'm rooting for one in this case.

(one of the first things I learned at The Daily was that they are not "Canadian" geese)

Cool. So we've managed to make Canadians irate. Do you have any idea how much effort that takes? When I lived there, the only time anyone raised their voice was a wildly specific situation.

I've no idea how this crisis actually plays out.

This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you got a moment, it's a twelve-storey crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying 'This Is a Large Crisis'. A large crisis requires a large plan. Get me two pencils and a pair of underpants.

(Blackadder quote from series 4)

I'm a bit exhausted about providing analysis for this shitshow. It's ... certainly something. Gilda Radner would likely say the same thing. Except, you know ...

I've still not seen the video, and I see no reason to. But it's worth noting that when the media unite around how shitty something is, it might be shitty.

It was funny seeing a Cedar Park dateline. Pretty sure I've never seen that in a national pub. But cool stuff regardless!

With the U.S. stepping back from its historical position as Taiwan's biggest defender, China appears emboldened. How this ends is of course unclear, but Xi may be gunning for a popular distraction from domestic problems. (See also: 9/11)

I was debating posting this, but if you've not seen the bus-stop art yet ... you're missing out.

Good analysis of what's going on with plenty of graphics. Also might sound a bit familiar to Americans in terms of how the center is breaking down.

You lose the senior vote as the GOP, you're fucked.

Yes, we've another two years, and it's becoming more clear this is why they're speedrunning.

But this is ... I don't know if self-immolation or Ouroboros is more apt.

This is a hell of a lot of inside baseball for those unfamiliar with German politics, so I'll highlight this:

Exit polls showed the AfD did well among younger voters, winning in the 25-34 age bracket with 22% ...

This is roughly in line with Holocaust denialism in the states in that age bracket from polls I've seen. We're literally too far past WWII for young people to believe something that atrocious could happen, so they're blithely voting for Nazism.

At a recent protest co-organised by senior activists Grannies Against the Right (Omas Gegen Rechts) in the eastern town of Teltow, 70-year-old retired history teacher Sabine Ludwig said she saw “scary” echoes of the Weimar era, a century ago.

“There won’t be endless chances for the democratic centrist parties to come together and keep the AfD out,” she said. “I hope they seize it.”

Very near term, not bad. I have a bed in fixed housing for the night with my house batteries charging off mains ahead of the first major cold snap of the year. Beyond that is another question.

I question the rigor of this reporting. I read the story, and it's a series of "on the other hand" setups that generally tells you you don't have a story on your hands.

Basically:

Is "AI" cheaper? Depends. Does it have wider reach? Depends. Is it more effective? ...

You see where this is going. Down that road lies conjecture and anecdote.

This just made me think of enchiladas! And sometimes, you want Christmas.

One might call it a witch hunt.

The same thing happened in journalism starting in the early aughts, and I don't see anyone saying the field is better for it 20 years on. When your entire stable is people less than three years out of college, you're going to get what you pay for.

I'm honestly curious what Schengen functionally means at this point. The larger classical powers seem to be going the other way.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Austin seems to have the right approach given no public-facing nuisance. Basically, don't run out into the road, and don't shit in public, and in return, I'm left alone. It is way less expensive to let an invisible problem remain invisible than to address it.

It's a Jungle out there.

So we have a stockpile of vaccines we're not using on farmworkers -- which would be a prophylactic measure that could head off a pandemic -- because they're worth less than cattle.

At least nothing was learned from covid.

What I have is a 120V/15A standard connector, which is attached to a 24V/17A charger, so to fully charge 7.7kWh is an overnight affair.

Now, could she please buy the WaPo?

This will work about as well as it always does.
