As someone who fought for months against unwarranted ULEZ violation tickets, this would be the reason not to visit London anymore.

WOW. This is what I would call "terminally stupid". Who the F cooks up such ridculous ideas?
Is anyone surprised by this? The luxury travel and house renovations for the politicians are paid by those who live off those capital gains, not by those who have to work for their money.
OMG. They want 2.5M$ for that place. Just imagine the amount of work you would need to make this place habitable for normal people again, and the price would probably double.
They still have paper catalogs?

Let's put it this way: Any HS2 that is not connected to the HS1 is a stupid idea from the beginning.
Do you really imagine people coming from the EU wanting to drag all their stuff through the f-ing Tube to reach the connecting bullet train to the north? Heck, this is already a pain in the ass with the crappy normal trains in the UK. I once needed to go from Hastings to Cambridge by train, and vividly remember having to walk between Kings Cross and Kings Cross Themselink (and back) with a load of luggage and a handicapped wife.
I've got a newer car, but ULEZ f-ed up and billed us nonetheless. We had to fight it tooth and nail and get a lawyer to get this fixed.
