Unfortunately there are some users on Lemmy very ready to see ICE's new budget justify political deportations. But yeah, I don't think any of them would have any cognitive dissonance about it.

One in every four or five people incarcerated anywhere in the entire world will be in America.
We're at least double that for prison population. 664k is closer to jail populations, so short term incarceration and people being held during and before their trial that will them into the prison population.
Prison + jail is something like 2 million.
Gulags at least had trials. Our system isn't even bothering to do that.
Turns out the sham trials were the excessive part.
Some of those people (or their children) are still having breakdowns because a black person is in the same store :(
They were raised by people who, in their day, could outright lynch that person with the consent, if not support, of the (local) law.
I think by now Taiwan has been out of martial law for just about as long as they were under it.
Fake or not, they too buy the line of "If you vote for us and get us total control you'll get everything you want.' despite there being a precedent of getting the opposite under the current system. They'll say their party just hasn't gotten all or enough of the power yet and that's why there's problems. And those people continue to vote for party because 'that's what you do' in their community.
There was this whole phase of Lemmy where it was looking like an alternative instead of a clone.
So maybe Lemmy was almost like a clone of Schwartz-era reddit, before becoming more of a transplant of post-2014 or even Spez era reddit.
Some users appear to be entirely sustained on hating the platform and/or its devs. As long as it exists they have a mission, possibly from god.
To me there's a difference between using assets that were generated by AI and a game using generative AI to create assets.
A person hired as an artist to make dialogue portraits could have shoveled some slop to meet a deadline. That's a production issue.
But if the games are being integrated with a generative AI model to cover minor assets, that's a fundamental development issue and I ~~can~~ cannot possibly see how that's good for anything.
