Honestly seems like a more dignified way to go out than in American Civil War 2: Brain Rot Edition

Fuck this shit, now I gotta be pro Disney too? I'd gotten so used to hating them. They grew on me a little back when they stood up against DeSantis in Florida too.

I miss the days when we could just love/hate corporations based on their business practices instead of culture war bullshit.

I've always seen it as meaning the type of douche who would pitch anything to YC

The paranoid part of my brain sees things like this as an attempt to piss people off enough to kick off some violent attacks, and give Trump the justification he wants to enact martial law.

He's got protagonist syndrome.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

I get what he's saying, but he added like no context so everyone is confused (including him because he seems to not realize the OP is about Trump)

The president of El Salvador is famous for taking a "hard stance" on gangs, by basically doing the same thing Trump is doing. He rounded up thousands of suspected gang members and threw them into forced labor camps without any kind of due process. That's why Trump is sending these immigrants to El Salvador, because the president is a vicious dictator who doesn't care about human rights.

It has been a massive scandal for a while in LatAm news, but it's the same tired old strongman bullshit you see in many places in South/Central America (and now in the north too!). Effective propaganda and control over the military means the problem won't be solved without foreign intervention and/or a spontaneous combustion event involving government leaders.

The is Elon we're talking about. Why pay a few hundred bucks to improve safety when it's cheaper and easier to fight the lawsuits when people die?

Are you a software engineer? Without doxxing yourself, do you think you could share some more info or guidance? I've personally been trying to integrate AI code gen into my own work, but haven't had much success.

I've been able to ask ChatGPT to generate some simple but tedious code that would normally require me read through a bunch of documentation. Usually, that's a third party library or a part of the standard library I'm not familiar with. My work is mostly Python and C++, and I've found that ChatGPT is terrible at C++ and more often than not generates code that doesn't even compile. It is very good at generating Python by comparison, but unfortunately for me, that's only like 10% of my work.

For C++, I've found it helpful to ask misc questions about the design of the STL or new language features while I'm studying them myself. It's not actually generating any code, but it definitely saves me some time. It's very useful for translating C++'s "standardese" into english, for example. It still struggles generating valid code using C++20 or newer though.

I also tried a few local models on my GPU, but haven't had good results. I assume it's a problem with the models I used not being optimized for code, or maybe the inference tools I tried weren't using them right (oobabooga, kobold, and some others I don't remember). If you have any recommendations for good coding models I can run locally on a 4090, I'd love to hear them!

I tried using a few of those AI code editors (mostly VS Code plugins) years ago, and they really sucked. I'm sure things have improved since then, so maybe that's the way to go?

If it makes you feel any better, just think of all the libs that have been owned.

This is the oath presidents must make before exercising any official powers or duties:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

He has been very obviously doing the complete opposite of that. The GOP has some pretty flexible mental gymnasts in their circus, but I don't think even they will be able to dodge this one.

My understanding of the supreme court ruling was that he has immunity only for "official acts". So... If he violates this oath, he isn't authorized to exercise any official powers of the presidency, and thus anything he's doing isn't official! Right? I hope so. It'd give me something to look forward to as we suffer through the next 4 years.

Is this a case of total brainwash, or just a case of a parent who didn't want his kid? Measles seems like a socially acceptable form of post-birth abortion today.

Wow, that was an awesome rabbit hole, thank you for the link.

If you want to change someone’s mind, they have to see you as in-group.

Maybe a less manipulative-sounding way to phrase that might be that we should remind people that we're all in it together. The far right media and their billionaire buddies have spent the past decade and a half dividing us, and they succeeded. Idk what it would take to unite this country again, but it at least is a little comforting to have a clear problem statement.

Hi, recent firefox refugee here, and I'm trying to figure out how to get webgl fully working. I already disabled webgl.disabled in about:config, and that seems to have done the trick for most webgl content.

However, the site noclip.website doesn't work. It's basically a 3D model viewer for game maps, and all I get is a black screen. This site works fine in Firefox on this same machine.

I'm using LibreWorld 135.0.1-1 Flatpak on Linux

Thanks!

EDIT:

Here are the log messages in the console. No errors, just a bunch of WebGL warnings:

I’m looking for a new mouse with MMO side buttons, and was wondering what Lemmy thought about it.

My current mouse is a cheapo Red Dragon M901. I love the ergononics, but the durability of the scroll wheel isn’t great. I had to replace the mouse about a year ago because the scroll wheel died (really stiff + wouldn’t click), and now this one is starting to show the same symptoms.

I would like wireless (esp. bluetooth), but I’m a little skeptical about it because my last wireless mouse (EVGA X20) had really inconsistent wakeup. Sometimes it would fall asleep while I was reading something, and I’d have to shake it for 2-5 seconds to wake it back up. That’s extremely annoying :/

The razer naga mice seem like the top tier stuff, but they’re very pricey and my experience with razer hardware reliability in the past has not been great.

Also I’m a linux user, so if the mouse comes with a linux compatible configuration utility, that’s a plus (open source? that’s a plus plus even if the mouse itself is mid :P)

(sorry if this isn't the right community for this)

I noticed that Jetbrains has a discount for users of "competitor products", and was wondering if anyone here has experience with it?

I've been considering buying CLion, so this caught my eye. However, I can't even think of any C++ IDE that isn't free. I exclusively use Sublime Text for my C++ work, but I assume that's not common enough to count?

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but I always love seeing stuff like this where a community comes together to keep a console alive.

The mastodon and lemmy content I’m seeing feels like 90% of it comes from people who are:

  • ~30 years old or older

  • tech enthusiasts/workers

  • linux users

There’s nothing wrong with that particular demographic or anything, but it doesn’t feel like a win to me if the entire fediverse is just one big monoculture.

I wonder what it is that is keeping more diverse users away? Is picking a server/federation too complicated? Or is it that they don’t see any content that they like?

Thoughts?
