Efficiency standards are a two-sided thing:

  • on the one hand, they reduce energy and water consumption, which saves on resources.
  • on the other hand, they increase engineering complexity and thus the cost of the machine.

Now, the engineering complexity requires able engineers to design and build the machine, which creates a stronger demand for engineers. That would be good for blue-collar workers.

Everything humans have ever done, every building, road, machine, and moment, makes up only a tiny fraction of this planet’s mass.

Oh boy do i have news for you

... but i agree with you. Even if humanity ceases to exist for whatever reason, both the planet Earth and life/evolution will go on just fine. We're a merely given a chance, but if we can make it, depends on us.

I never got the insistence of people that "stop immigration" would be a far-right thought.

Being against immigration can have lots of reasons, primarily economical reasons. It objectively (I'd say) is a good thing that the birth rate is dropping, because that improves the socio-economic position of the people. I.e., it reduces the supply in workforce, which increases prices for labor (a.k.a. wages). And it also means that more resources are available per person, which reduces the cost of living.

Yet, many people (especially the "greens") seem to argue that we need more workers to fulfill the demands of our economy, which, frankly, is just bullshit and plainly wrong. ... and that assumed need for more workers is then used as a justification to import people, as if they were a shippable product. It's disgusting, really. First we start a war in the middle east; then we move the people to a foreign country. It's a double shame.

how about we fucking do neither.

Yeah, it seems to me, school is really just a process that mostly exists to teach you to adhere to nonsensical processes. At least that was largely how it was in my case.

People are told to sit and listen for the first 18 years of their life, and then they're told to stand up and do something the rest of their lifes.

People are educated to not think for themselves, feel for themselves, and make life experiences. Everything is regulated. Parents have too much control. It takes a village to raise a child, yet we've normalized the "core-family"-household. What a perversion of nature.

over here hoping we destroy ourselves for the benefit of the universe

... and Trump took that literally.

don't say things such as this, not even as a joke :)

I fiirmly believe that people are doing badly and suffering because they don't listen to themselves and their body.

If MAGA starts accepting its own body, they will get waay more powerful.

My idea is to implement a wealth tax rate of 3% on everything above an exempt amount of $10 million, that is to be paid annually.

This way, there is no hard limit. You can have more money without going to jail, but you have to help the community.

The rule would work something like this:

  1. the rule applies to all citizens of the United States
  2. calculate the total wealth of the person:
    • items such as money on bank accounts, shares in companies, real estate, and other valuables are estimated and added
    • debts and other negative value can be deducted
  3. if the amount is less than $10 million, no taxes are paid
  4. otherwise, subtract $10 million from the total net worth, then multiply by 0.03, that is the value that you have to pay

this procedure is to be repeated annually

to prevent people from giving up their US citizenship and taking on the citizenship of some other country, which may not have a wealth tax, there needs to be a way to make sure the US citizenship remains attractive to people. for example, if you do not have US citizenship, you're not allowed to possess more than $10 million in total wealth inside the US, i.e. in real estate, company shares and bank accounts.

get your greentexts, hot and fresh :D

4chan is all about being out of the norm, being the 4-leaved clover

Consider the following drawing:

I take it that solar panel's generated electricity would be the same whether it's installed in scandinavia or africa, as long as it faces in the same direction? or am i stupid

i'm asking this because everywhere i hear how "solar panels have higher efficiency near the equator", but that's just not true. Maps such as these are common on the internet:

And they suggest that solar energy around the equator would be twice as available as on northern latitudes, but actually that's just the solar irradiation if the panels weren't inclined, but in practice, they were likely will be. So they receive similar amounts of power.

edit: so, it's the cloud cover. got it; thanks :D

Interesting channel. They talk about solar power and how it replaces coal power, and what that means for climate warming until 2100.

Spoiler: The "business as usual" climate model significantly overestimates climate warming until 2100, and it will probably be much much less severe.
