Weed Watch: The Beekeeper (2024)

I discovered this hidden gem quite by accident. I like to take edibles and progressively watch weirder stuff as time passes, to align with the intensity of the high. The Beekeeper was supposed to be the first watch, a simple run of the mill action thriller.

Then the uncanny valley started. Not specifically in a visual sense, but the pacing of the cuts, and the dialogue. There is something very slightly off no matter where you look, but that clashes with what you expect from a Jason Statham movie in just the right way.

There is also so much left unexplained and unexplored in terms of the plot that it feels exactly like when you're high and everything feels like it's going out of its way to be undecipherable.

All of this combines with the honestly decent action and cameos by Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons (who I think is trying to do a Southern accent, but he hasn't gotten back to me) to make for quite a unique experience for stoners and good-bad movies alike.

I was looking around, and realised we don't have a single functioning equivalent to r/PhotoshopBattles. On a quick search:

• [email protected] - Completely empty and unmoderated
• [email protected] - Dormant for 2 years (with a mod who hasn't posted or commented on lemmy in 2 years)
• [email protected] - Finnish instance, but the newest post is from 6 months ago
• [email protected] - Dormant for 2 years (mod dormant for 1 year)

We should revive the lemm.ee instance, but imo there is merit to starting afresh with a name that isn't tied to a proprietary closed-source piece of software, like image edits or editbattles

If there's anyone who's interested, please take it up. I don't mind being a mod, but I can't be the main (let's be real, sole) contributor right now. I've got my hands full with [email protected], and that's just putting text on images, not even close to realistic edits like this demands.

I've recently noticed that posts by users from feddit.org (but not on communities on that instance) have pics that don't load, and when I try to open the image separately, I get a connection timed out error.

These two posts are where I noticed it first. Is it just me?

The fact that people are tiptoeing around it in the comments and it still got locked is insane.
